I used to practice drums with a pair of Direct Sound isolation headphones and an ipod or some scratch tracks I had recorded on a multitrack to a click. I frequently did stuff like just put on Weezer or Unida or something simple like that and just play along.

Yeah, Direct Sound is definitely the top choice for drummer's headphones. Best non-active isolation that you're going to find.
In a pinch, some inexpensive in-ears would work, look at Shure SE215s or 115s. You want something with interchangeable foam and/or flanged rubber tips to get good isolation.
Playing along with music is a good start, but I'm going to go ahead an be a TB dick and say that the best thing to do is to practice with other musicians. You can play along to recorded music till you're blue in the face, but it'll be much slower going than playing with other musicians.

I'm using an MIJ CE-3, works pretty well though there's a little low end cut but not too much.
For sure playing with other human meatbags is best, and I mostly got it for that reason. Though I do live alone and its been so long since I've touched a kit, it wouldn't hurt to get to some level of competency solo and when no one is around I can still practice different styles, timing etc.
Currently it's just a bare bones kit, that's all I need to learn. In time as things progress etc. I'll get a decent set of hats, crash, and heads, but for now it's in my possession and that's 9/10ths of the law sooo yea good enough for me!
Maybe in a few months, currently just too much going on and stuff that needs my funds.
Ever use the Stereo out? My cool cat chorus is based on the Roland (boss) jazz chorus and sounds really good in mono, stereo it sends one wet signal and one dry out, but never much bothered with it. It's also 18v so I guess it's twice as chorusy?

I saw one of those at the shop where I took my baritone project for final setup and assembly. Not sure if it was on a 6x10 or 2x15, I mostly just looked at the head. It's been haunting my dreams ever since. If it's still there when I go to pick up the completed baritone it just might come home with me. Baritone -> RAT clone -> Vintage Peavey? hmmm….
On a semi-related note, I was enjoying some In The Company Of Serpents today. I'm looking forward to seeing them here in Tempe in mid-March. Sure wish Hex Volt was on that bill.

Never tried hooking it up to two amps. I should. I do like setting it to stereo mode but only using one output; it has a chewy, vibrato-y vibe.

Anyway, I just had the most annoying experience!! I just sold an instrument on Reverb ( and not on talkbass because I cant bring myself to pay for a membership to a site I can rarely use!) ...
So in selling my listing it was up for $1850 and this fella offers me $1500. I tell him Im happy to come down to $1700 with free shipping. He agrees, but before he hits the "buy" button he has second thoughts and he then spends the rest of the evening haggling with me to come down to $1600. I finally relent and say I'll go $1650 (because I can give up $50 to make $1600!). He agrees and buys my listing. Im happy right? Well then I go to make a shipping label thru fedex and I need to know whether or not its a residential or commercial address so i Google up his address and find the Zillow listing from 2013 when he bought his house for $1,950,00 that is currently appraised for $2.35 mill! Dude is buying $2 million dollar houses and is haggling with me over a $100!!! Wow... Im just gonna assume that with his mortgage he needs that $100 more than me!

that kind of attitude makes my blood boil. the only people who can throw money like that around on real estate are miserly pricks on principle. it seems you don't get a lot of money by giving it away, or by being a nice person..

Annoying for sure, but most well off people are cheapskates in ways. Saving a dollar when you can allows you to do more later.
