The bass playing lady from Mono and Wata should find a female drummer and make a super group.
Even though bass has always been my primary instrument and guitar has always been something I just noodled around or used for writing riffs (usually to figure out a guitar part after the bass line was already written), I still use pickups kinda more the way a guitarist would.
On my two pickup basses (my 4001 and my Ibanez copy), the bridge pickup is the main sound, and I almost always use it by itself. The neck pickup is for when there's a quieter part of a song, or a quiet song in general, and then I switch to it for a smoother, rounder, less aggressive tone that won't stick out too much in the middle of clean guitars.
My Peavey only has one pickup, and it's basically slightly closer to the bridge than the D&G portion of a P-pickup. Pretty close to the Rickenbacker bridge pickup position. I like the Ric pickup positions better than the Fender Jazz positions because to me the Fender Jazz bridge pickup is a little too nasal and trebly to use on its own. The Ric bridge pickup position I like because it's close enough to the bridge to have a nasty bite, while being far enough away to still have a lot of fatness.
No worries, dude. I'm also a bit of a dick at times. I probably get into ******* ranting mode a bit too easily for my own good. I should have stated more directly, initially, that I know that my weird visceral distaste for the furry subculture is something that makes no sense and that I shouldn't have. Some of my friends like things that gross me out, too, though... like avocados. I just don't get the appeal, but if that's what they're into...
A shaved dick sounds pretty painful. Like chafeage taken to the next level.
I'm not sure if Becky from Laudanum has done much since that band broke up.
i felt like this for a long time as well, but it was mostly towards my rick which i play 99.9% of the time - because i liked my bridge pickup so close to the strings it seemed so lackluster in comparison, but now that i've experimented with a compressor and ric-o-sound i am in love with it once again. plus it just sounds so damn good in a mix, there are some fundamentals that lack when you just use a bridge pickup.
now that is a stoner/doom bassists pedalboard. so much dirt. i'll be running two sets in parallel shortly, hoo boy.
That's when it happened for me, when I played a Ric for 5 years. When I started playing bass I played PJ's and then Jazz basses and I always ran them with the pickups blended. One at full volume, one at half, sometimes favoring the neck and sometimes the bridge depending on the amp and the guitar tones. Once I had the Ric I pretty much never used the neck pickup ever, it always just sounded thuddy and boring to me.
Nah... I just wanna look at it for a few days. Its kinda like a seduction. ;-)
that's the one, that's exactly how i felt about it. boring would be the right word i think - but after i've changed to stainless and dialed in a CS-2 correctly it brings out the nicest upper harmonics and a bite i'd never heard before. now i'm putting together a P bass with a model P wired directly to the jack together when previously the idea would have turned me off completely, ha.
I went white-on-black, too. I thought the details of the beast stood out a little better that way.
I remember getting my first real bass rig. It wasn't nearly so impressive as the one you just got, but it was Ampeg, and it was a real head and cab. I loved how much more solid and menacing it looked than my previous combo. I'd sit around just looking at it.
See, I really like the contrast on Rickenbackers between the bridge and neck pickups, and how they allow me to make really sudden changes in sound.

No I flipped that silicon fuzz face BYOC clone I had with the bias knob. This is more old man rock Germanium fuzz face though it does have an internal bias trim pot so maybe I could get some velcro out of it.
Damn you move fast, do you have a consistent selection of pedals? I know you flip a lot but I get the image you have as many pedals as you do pets.

Yeah pedals are cheap enough to try out and sell off fast if you don't dig them. Right now for guitar I have been digging old school fuzz clones. But keeper pedals I have are Octron, Bluebeard, Fender Sublime, EQD Speaker Cranker, Ibanez Wah, Nano Stone, Hardwire Delay, Harwire Reverb, Digitech Looper XT but most are for guitar. I am playing catch up for missing years of just playing straight to amps with only a tuner pedal.
