Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

No real bars where you are?

I get weirded out when I have to go to SoCal for work and all the bars are in strip malls or new construction that less than 15 years old. Where's the old worn-in dive in a ****** 100 year old building? Doesn't feel right.

They are more like clubs. Not that old man bar feel like I grew up with. The real bar to lean on, with chips and nuts clipped to the wall. Old man beer on tap. The stop by after work to have a few till the old lady is done with dinner. Maybe watch the local news while there.

Won a free drink on the shake of the day...

Gin and tonic St Patrick Swayze style...

MMJ's song Golden has a good bar section in the lyrics

Mmm...people always told me
That bars are dark and lonely
And talk is often cheap
And filled with air
Sure, sometimes they thrill me
But nothin' could ever chill me
Like the way they make
The time just disappear

My favorite bar lyric is:
"I'm the guy who sits at the end of the bar,
with my change in a puddle and my big plans that got me this far."

I can't find a clip but I love the bar scene in Jesus' Son with Fucckhead and Wayne after they steal the copper wire from the house he lost and go whoop it up with their illegal earnings and how proud they felt like men who worked. FN love that movie. The fight scene with Wayne and the guy at the bar, then they go straight back to the bar after some sloppy drunken fistacuffs Wayne buys him a drink and they are still calling each other arseholes!

...and a physical, mechanical Juke (even if it's just CDs). Not some of that fancy touch screen bullsh*t to line up the next mp3.

Also, as far as Black Pussy goes, I'll be honest, and this may sound totally ignorant, but the racial aspect never even crossed my mind (which people could say is a luxury afforded to me by being white). I just thought...hey, standard metal naming convention, add black together with a noun. And also I love their ALL SUNN setup.

I would go to this one bar and the guy who owned it and was the sole bartender was in his 80's. He made the best hamburgers and would warm up fried pizza in his little toaster oven, that took for ever and the smell just intensified your drunken hunger, but was so worth the wait. He actually had blind robbins snacks on the wall, but I was never brave or drunk enough to try them. If he got a phone call he would say hey you there, serve the beer and gather the money till I get off the phone. If he got tired he would say ok everyone out I'm closing, I'm tired, go home, see you tomorrow. Great place and a great guy!

That's was my kind of bar. I had a watering hole where, by the time I walked to the bar from the doorway, my drink was waiting for me.
