Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

@Ender_rpm Is difficult to use the tap tempo feature on the Joyo D-Seed. I noticed you have to hit both switches at the same time to set the tap and can't tell if the pedal is small enough to do that easily with your foot.

the pedal is like 4x5, and the switches are pretty nicely spaced to allow individual and simultaneous stomping. I had the time this weekend to get some guitar time in, sounded aces.

Ha! I nearly spit up laughing at that last line.

Our stories are similar. I NEVER wanted to be a parent and was sure I'd never go that way, but when my wife and I got together almost 20 years ago, she had a son who was 6. After a while I got to thinking "Ya know, I don't totally hate this 'dad stuff' and I feel like I'm pretty good at it." So I consented to try to make a couple kids of our own.

But after our second daughter came along in '99, my wife and I both got fixed. Just to make doubly sure...

Yeah I guess I am doing things right, she is trying to put in her will that she wants me to raise him if anything happens to her. I tease her damn skippy, that is better than taking a puppy to the park to get the ladiez. Yeah I am all alone raising this little feller here, I said we can have Mommy try outs! She doesn't like that comment.

Thanks, I dig the #1 Echo I have now but I sure miss the tap tempo function of the Headrush. I keep eyeballing the DD20 and the TC Nova Repeater(actually had one and should of kept it) but they aren't cheap. Plus that Mooer Reecho Pro is sure taking its sweet time to hit the market. I think the D-seed is the ticket.
Kind of hooked on various dirt through pitch fork(octave up and down), phaser, and delay right now for slow annoying ambience.

You guys aren't good for my pedal GAS. I try to keep things minimal. All I have at the moment is a fuzz, but I'd like to add some kind of echo and maybe an octave pedal. But one pedal is like a gateway drug. Before long I end up with drawers full of the things.
Or shelves in the library dedicated to pedals... Looks all around...
I should probably purge some fuzz. Found out how much JohnK wants for a GK Rails pedal. Unless I purge it's a nope!

Well, I know Mr. Squanch has an EHX Echo box for sale, and I'm considering it, but I went on a bit of a spending spree recently (one new bass, few sets of strings, a couple of pickups, a wiring harness, some straps, replacement pickguards...) and I'm pretty tapped out.
I didn't even get a real amp and now I'll have to wait another year while I borrow from others or rock out on my 35 Watt el cheapo practice amp.

There was a period in the late 90s when I had enough gear to open my own music store. Guitars, basses, amp equipment, recording equipment, analog synths, and I literally had a large dresser cram packed with fx pedals.

Then, by various turns of life circumstance, I ended up with almost nothing for a long time. I'm trying to keep it minimal, but it's damn hard.

LOL don't forget Ol' Squanch gives Doomer Discounts so it would be cheaper than in the classifieds.

Heh. I DO loves me some EHX stuff. I used to have a ring modulator by them (about the size of a shoebox) that was killer, and I've owned numerous iterations of the Big Muff.

I used to run both a Sovtek Big Muff next to a ProCo Rat. That sounded so dirty my wife said she had to take a shower after listening. No definition whatsoever, just enough fuzz and scree to levitate the housepets.

A fuzz!!! Sheesh, living pretty large ain't ya? I only use a tuner!!! Olde Skool!!!

No real bars where you are?

I get weirded out when I have to go to SoCal for work and all the bars are in strip malls or new construction that less than 15 years old. Where's the old worn-in dive in a ****** 100 year old building? Doesn't feel right.
That is a weird thing. I don't think I've gone to a bar that's in a strip mall. Would feel weird.

Actually... how the shag does bar hopping even work in SoCal? You have to drive everywhere, it seems. I guess you really need a DD there.

and dont forget...wood everywhere
Wood is a much more common construction material than brick on the west coast because we discovered in 1906 (and at other various times) that without a shitload of metal reinforcement, brick is absolutely terrible in an earthquake, due to it being both relatively brittle and also heavy (breaking into small but dense pieces that plummet onto people and kill them). Wood, while not perfect, and adding to the fire danger after earthquakes, is comparatively lightweight and flexible. It'll still get messed up, but the people inside the structure have a greater chance of surviving at least the earthquake itself.

Essentially, the building materials you want for dealing with earthquakes are opposite to what is best for dealing with, say, tornadoes and hurricanes.

So going back east is always weird and a little uncomfortable for me, because of all the un-reinforced brick everywhere, which is just normal for the area, when having grown up here, even after telling myself that, part of my subconscious is screaming at me that I'm in a deathtrap.

...and a physical, mechanical Juke (even if it's just CDs). Not some of that fancy touch screen bullsh*t to line up the next mp3.

Also, as far as Black Pussy goes, I'll be honest, and this may sound totally ignorant, but the racial aspect never even crossed my mind (which people could say is a luxury afforded to me by being white). I just thought...hey, standard metal naming convention, add black together with a noun. And also I love their ALL SUNN setup.
A bunch of white guys in a band named "Black Pussy?" That's just... well, while I'm totally willing to accept that they're well-meaning fellows and not ********... naming yourselves "Black Pussy" just seems like a really stupid thing, and it concerns me that at no point did any of them go "wait a minute... you know, we're a bunch of white dudes, maybe this name is kinda not the best for us?"

Like another dude said on the other thread, if it had been a sludge band made up of angry black chicks, then it'd be cool, ala Pussy Riot.

Is anyone else just flat sick of work? I'm 46 and I've been working hard since I was 14. Moved around too much and changed jobs too often to probably ever be able to retire.

I don't really mind giving up one third of my days to working, but I at least wish that in return I could make an actual living and not struggle every month.

Don't mean to whine, but I'm getting to the end of my rope here...

I've got a couple of degrees, have worked very hard, tried to advance myself and make good decisions with regards to employment but basically I just feel like I'm getting crapped on and my mental and physical health are deteriorating.

I feel as if when I get to the end of my life I'm gonna look back and think "Well, that was stupid..."
Dude, work sucks. That is kinda the truth of life. A lot of our society is devoted to trying to sugar-coat the fact that work sucks and we're basically all prostitutes (I don't really see much difference between selling your body for sex and selling it for any other kind of labor that you wouldn't choose to do otherwise).

And in the last three decades, wages have really declined in comparison to inflation, cost of living, etc. It shaging blows. It's not whining to talk about the suckage of it is getting to you.

It's not helped by this society's expectation that everyone's lives are basically about their jobs, which is a subconscious social expectation that isn't really present in some other cultures (for example, Spain... we got to know the family of our exchange student pretty well, several years back, and it became clear that while both her parents had liked their job, there isn't the same cultural idea that work is what life is about, there).

Hell naw! The wife and I thought about a third baby, but it really came down to "I do NOT want to be changing diapers after 40." On with the vasectomy. If she wanted more than two, she should have started earlier, back when I was willing, young, dumb, and full of…high sperm counts…
Yeah. shag that. I don't know how anyone manages to want kids, given the baby stage. Ugh. Not for me, definitely.

Ha! I nearly spit up laughing at that last line.

Yeah... I don't have any kids, but I'm thinking about getting fixed. I know I wouldn't be a good parent, and will never be able to support kids, and I just... well, to put it bluntly, I just don't like babies. Just don't. Kids after that are all right, I guess. But babies? I don't know how anyone copes with that part of child-care.

That "Your tone doesn't matter" thread over in the basses section is weird.

Of course my tone matters. I have to listen to what my band sounds like, after all. I don't give a poopie if the audience notices. I notice.

The most frustrating, though, is the "bad ear tone day," which I think Mc Muench described a long time ago. I hate those days.
