Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I was bandying about the idea of going to Pittsburgh to catch the Mastodon/Clutch show, but think I'm going to pass. Any of yinz going to go?
Don't forget Graveyard! I'll be there. Tried to get us on as a local opener but I don't think they're doing a local. If you're looking for something to do we're playing with Witch Mountain this Friday in Pittsburgh!

This Friday is booked by wifely decree, but the Mastodon show might be do-able. I could always do the weekend at Mom's and drive to P-burgh for the show that night, and take Monday off......

Is anyone else just flat sick of work? I'm 46 and I've been working hard since I was 14. Moved around too much and changed jobs too often to probably ever be able to retire.

I don't really mind giving up one third of my days to working, but I at least wish that in return I could make an actual living and not struggle every month.

Don't mean to whine, but I'm getting to the end of my rope here...

I've got a couple of degrees, have worked very hard, tried to advance myself and make good decisions with regards to employment but basically I just feel like I'm getting crapped on and my mental and physical health are deteriorating.

I feel as if when I get to the end of my life I'm gonna look back and think "Well, that was stupid..."

I hear ya Brother. I passed up a few choice jobs to continue school and loved to move around too much to grow roots. Actually wanting to move again LOL. I think I will always have some regrets but at least I didn't stay in Northeast PA and have lived in some fun places LOL. Foreclosed homes, used cars, and upper low class/low middleclass for life, someone has to pay taxes to help the poor, we can't ask the rich to do that, right?

My girlfriend wants us to have a kid and I turn 43 next month. From its diapers to my diapers lol.

Hell naw! The wife and I thought about a third baby, but it really came down to "I do NOT want to be changing diapers after 40." On with the vasectomy. If she wanted more than two, she should have started earlier, back when I was willing, young, dumb, and full of…high sperm counts…

She thinks I should have one of my own and she is 13 years younger than me. I said well if you don't bother me with the kid's needs till it's older and can mostly fend for itself I am cool with that :D
I have been raising Micah since he was three. So yeah I met her just in time to get the pleasure of wiping his butt LOL.
I already hide in the car when they go to stores I don't like. And I am really thinking forties, migraines, and babies don't mix. And if I get told one more time to turn down while I am playing because they can't hear each other from one downstairs to one of them upstairs I think I may lose my mind LOL.

Back...slowly...away. Then run.

Nah, it's great having kids but I am so happy I had mine in my very early 30s. Before that, I was probably too irresponsible and selfish with my time to have kids. Now I'm in my mid-40s and I cannot imagine having to expend the kind of energy raising children takes at my age and in the shape I'm in.

My best friend in Texas is a couple years older than me and he and his wife had their first (and only) child when he was 43 or so. He's done a great job of handling it, but I think it's taken its toll to a degree as well.

I am jazzed that my daughters are 15 and 16 now. They are (mostly) independent, interesting, funny, bright, intelligent, beautiful. But I just can't imagine dealing with infants or toddlers where I am in my life now...

A couple years back my wife mentioned something about becoming foster parents or adopting. I just shot her a look that ensures it is a subject that will never come up again.

With regards to kids, I have done my bit for king & country...

LOL. If I was ten years younger maybe but not now. Micah is 7 seven so he is pretty easy now other then needing a sitter from time to time. Worst thing is I was so used to being a loner and now I got these people in my house and they say my name a lot.

Ha! I nearly spit up laughing at that last line.

Our stories are similar. I NEVER wanted to be a parent and was sure I'd never go that way, but when my wife and I got together almost 20 years ago, she had a son who was 6. After a while I got to thinking "Ya know, I don't totally hate this 'dad stuff' and I feel like I'm pretty good at it." So I consented to try to make a couple kids of our own.

But after our second daughter came along in '99, my wife and I both got fixed. Just to make doubly sure...
