The last Mental Waste track we recorded, for a compilation, I had the guitarist use my DOD Death Metal and I used a Boss ODB-3, just as a fun exercise in getting good tones with cheap gear. I love boutique gear, but there's something satisfying about getting great tones out of cheap sh*t.

On top of amp woes...if my boss addresses me as if I were a six-year-old one more time, I may have to resort to something extreme...
I'm a pretty chill guy, slow to anger...but I've never been good looking, never been successful, don't have a great deal of talent...

So if you don't want to read the whole thing I am looking for a new OD/dist with lots of high mids/highs and plenty of gain. Open to suggestions. Prolly also feed this too the wolves in regular TB land.

So a strange predicament with a long story. Well I wrapped up recording for the band im in (band sounds like failure meets hum). I own way too much stuff
and I was surprised what I ended up using on the recording. It's odd that you show up with a game plan and it changes last minute as you start to track. My tracks were split into 3 paths, one SVT, one B15, and one DI. I was planning on using a ric or my 74 p bass as my main bass but I ended up using my pink Jazz with the paf model j's and j retro. It sounded super good in the mix I used it for all the clean bass tracks. I ended up havin the last day of tracking be the dirty bass day. I brought about every dirt/fuzz/overdrive I owned and was surprised again what I ended up using. I started with the fuzz and out of the 5 muffs I own the best sounding was the Bluebeard on tone bypass. I was actually pretty floored by that since I actually brought it over for the guitar players to use. The fuzz tracked turned out super great also. The fuzz tracks were done with the 74p and SVT only. So clean sounds great as does the fuzz bass. Next came a couple songs where I wanted a real nasty overdriven, almost distorted bass tone. Think in your head playing bass thru a Marshall stack. So I have 2 rats and a demon (OCD). Mind that I'm still only using the SVT with the same setting and mic placement as all previous tracking. I can't get the tone I want to save my life. All those dirts sounded super similar to the tracks I cut with the BB. I tried every bass I brought with those peds and no success. Then I went to the other room and grabbed a turbo tube screamer. That didn't cut it either. Then I remembered my aguilar tone hammer was at the studio. I was getting warmer with the TH but still not there. Then we decided to not use the mic'd SVT, went straight to the board with the TH DI, and that was the closest I could get to what I was looking for. Both times the highs and high mids were cranked along with the gain knob on the TH. We recorded that and it will probably need some tweaking in post production. Now here is my problem, out of all my effects I'm missing that nasty dirt tone i want/need. I already know all my pedals don't work in front of my amp. So what I need is a new dirt pedal that has a onboard EQ with lots of highs and high mids. With a really good amount of gain. A blend would also be nice but not a must. Some kind of Tonehammer-ish on steroids im thinking. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

My Dano clone is awesome and I've heard the original black box too and can say it's great too.
Took a lot of low end out, but it's not for bassy tones, and you can always LS-2 or blend some other way. Stacked with the BB or my Fabtone is awesome as well as it keeps the Fuzz tone but gives it the edge the guv'nor has for more definition and yet more dirt.

I don't like the look of toms on the bass drum. So I have this cymbal stand that was faulty, and hammered off the broken top. Now I want to mount this for a tom. Any idea how to keep it there without swiveling? No visible duct tape answers. I want it to at least look like a clean. Like wrapping the shaft in duct tape and pressing the arm down onto it might be ok, but I'd prefer a piece of hardware.
There are mounting clamps specifically for that. I've used them with every kit I've owned, since I don't like toms on the kick drum either.

the EQ on the BAT Black Forest might get you what you are after. An old school Sparkle Drive could work as well.
I've heard good things about the sparkle drive but never heard one in Person. I'll try to find some bass clips of both of they exist.
If you look up "tom clamp" on Google shopping, it will give you a bunch of examples. There's a lot of different configurations, types, brands, etc.

I have a darkglass vmt deluxe i use with the drive pretty low and the blend pretty clean to get a super ganky grinding death metal tone. I originally got it just to have a di in my chain but now have found plenty of places where i like that tone.
