Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Well thats my luck they sold the Afterneath yesterday...BUT its still a NPD!!! I ended up with the Cathedral, they gave me a deal I couldnt refuse. Handles bass great with the damping/tone knob turned up. It gets way weird and wet, and has so many different verbs to get freaky with...plus the echo mode, so I still have delay if I want it. The infinite button is cool. Im sure the Afterneath is awesome but Im sure this Cathedral can do way more!!! The DAB wasnt crazy enough, which was surprising given the companies other overthetop pedals. I also tried a Catalinbred Talisman which was 99% there but the Catherdal got wierder and does more for the same price

Cant wait to try it with PVYHenge.

Not new. Not very good either.

I used to like them in high school, and yea, not so good...

After tonight's practice I have a renewed love of my B3K. Backed up on gain a bit and it sits perfectly in the mix again. That will probably last until next rehearsal when I'll hate it and want to sell it again.

See, this is what I'm getting at. Thought I'd learn about some bands I was unfamiliar with, and here we go: just from that list I've never heard the last two. Now I got something new to check out.

I got to see Unsane with Tar at Lounge Ax in Chicago back around 1993. Killer show. Before they played Chris Spencer asked if anyone could change a guitar string. I volunteered. He asked just in case he broke one during the show.

Well, he broke one, handed me his Tele and a set of strings and grabbed his backup. I kept trying to change his string but I was right in front of the stage and kept getting jostled and moshed around. I felt like a complete tool, standing there with my knees pressed against the stage and people slamming into me while I'm trying to thread this A string through a tuning peg hole...

@Speedor--my favorite Hawkwind album. Hell yes to Kyuss and Sepultura too.

How have I not heard Elder? They've come up twice now...I am totally ignorant...

Most of those are long time favorites, Elder was a recent one that really grabbed me. Unsane is one of my all time favorites. Scissorfight to me is kind of like a more punk/aggressive version of something like Clutch. Just good, really catchy rock n roll, with a bit of a heavy edge. There's a lot of albums I like and listen to a lot, those are definitely some of them, but they popped into my head because some things you grow into, but these I all loved the second I heard them.

Sonic excess is probably my favorite crowbar album!

Definitely my favorite, I never get tired of it.

Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky - Earthless

I've really come to dig on Earthless.

Come to think of it, the band Earth is another one of my faves.

I think we were probably all pretty moved by Dopesmoker, though I like High On Fire even more. "Fertile Green" may be the coolest music video ever made. Ever.

I never much listened to music as a kid. My dad never listened to anything, and mom only listened to like willie Nelson it seemed. Also I'm an only child so no older siblings with music.

When I was 13 my uncle gave me a cd case with a burned copy of all his favorite CD's. So my first real exposure to music came from that. So technically that group of CD's was my most influential if only for the fact I heard those first and that got the ball rolling.

Rubberneck was in that cd collection but I thought the name was stupid and never listened to it for another year.
