If crossing is causing trouble lower the snare and raise the hihat a bit. I would start out learning righty, so you'll be able to sit down at anyone's kit and play. Drummers may not mind letting you use their kit, but they'd absolutely mind you moving **** around. Just a thought...
I need to join a drum forum to ask more questions, but having read them it seems it's the equivalent of venturing out into TalkBass proper maybe worse.
I'm still unable to find a setup that doesn't work. The other day I did some of my best playing left handed open hand (everything setup backwards without crossing arms). Went to look this up and answers range from "do whatever", to "just learn righty stupid".
I'd be real curious/appreciative to see pics of your drummers kits. Sizes and cymbal info would be gold, but you know do whatever.
The rig as of now is a spector NS-2 with Euro preamp through my darkglass B7K used as a stand-alone preamp into a QSC preamp into 8x10's. Drive on the B7K and Fuzz on a darkglass Duality fuzz. Critique?Lots of doom tones in this thread with SS gear. You could probably get some cool doom tones with a Spector but a Ric its a pretty particular beast with a tone all its own.

More importantly, how do you like it? anything can work if it does it for you.The rig as of now is a spector NS-2 with Euro preamp through my darkglass B7K used as a stand-alone preamp into a QSC preamp into 8x10's. Drive on the B7K and Fuzz on a darkglass Duality fuzz. Critique?
noy a fan of the duality and it won't really do a doomy fuzz tone. having said that it really depends on what you want to sound like.

I still recomend flats.
Ok need some music recommendations. I'm relatively new to the doom genre and I want to hear what you're currently listening to. Give me your heavy, fuzzed out sludge.
Oh and hi!
I was under the impression that the dope throne tone was a ampeg/kramer p/muff
Are you sure its the pickups and not the preamp? My only complaint is that it distorts really easy because of the p/ups

And since when is distortion bad?
