They must have some great recording techniques. Or really bad live tone/recordings.

i honestly don't think they are very good musicians. I get the feeling that they expect everyone to like them just because of their "don't give a fvck" attitude. I don't know what it is, but EW just rubs me the wrong way.
I still love dopethrone and CMF can't take that from me!

Check out the Meteor City listening both. Buy the Meteor City compilations. They should be pretty cheap through all that is heavy. You could probably also just pick an album cover you like and give it a go. There's lots of web resources out there too.
As for the dude with Spector, just work on your tone. Don't be so worried about sounding just like someone else. Active basses always did what you described, to me too. I had a nice Warwick that I could never tame. I find passive basses to work best for what I do. However, there are people here using active basses. Maybe it's an EQ thing? I am using passive Jazz and Precision basses. Extremely happy
I've always preferred actives - but I get ones with 3 band EQ. If it's too much for something, not only can I reduce the volume overall, but I can reduce bass/mids/treble individually. Or together to reduce volume before using the volume pot, if I'm really slamming the front end of something.
Anyway, minor gear dilemma here. I've been in a long search for "the" envelope filter. I can't spend tons of money, and it'll only be used sparingly, so I don't want to spend tons of money. I've narrowed it down to the MXR Bass Envelope Filter and the Source Audio Bass Envelope Filter (standard, not pro or Manta). But now that I've switched up my flanger, my iStomp version of the DOD FX25B is sounding much better. I can get any of the aforementioned pedals used, which do I get? If any of you have any experience with these filters AFTER flange and/or dirt, input would be appreciated.
In short, what filter do I get for after dirt/flange:
DOD FX25B - Some familiarity, cheapest
MXR BEF - No familiarity, most expensive, good rep, and I typically like MXR (like, not love)
SA BEF - No familiarity, middle expensive, great rep, very tweakable

I owned the MXR envelope filter and dug it. Gave it to a buddy that filled in a gig for me and bailed me out if a jam, but I wouldn't mind trying it again. It had plenty of low end.
I have the MXR BEF. Small footprint, big sound. I run mine after dirt and delay, sounds wild with a high feedback delay and fuzz. I don't have any experience with the others you listed.
I've tried tons of filters and I always go back to my 70's doctor Q. It's just responds like I think a filter should act.
Also a side note I've been looking for a second P pickup (or whole p bass lol ) to get a more rounded sound vs my lakland neo punch. Borrowed a bunch of pickups from my friend and he had a older schaller p pickup that sounds really good.

There was no fuzz or murkiness when i saw them, just a cranked Marshall. It was weird, all of the underground/cult/evil atmosphere just wasnt there - we were just watching 3 British dorks with bad attitudes. Sons of Otis blew them off the stage.

Drove out to the hill country for beef pit bbq, onions and pickles. Easter feast, that's left me on the verge of expelling it back out violently.

Yesterday was NPD, nothing exciting but useful stuff. The Saturnworks did the trick to balance the Tryant in my chain. I have to get some longer patch cables though as I have it in the chain with the Tyrant above it in kind of a weird position, but it works. Hard to believe you can get a good pedal for 31 dollars shipped, pretty cool. Also picked up a set of radius tools so I can do proper setups. I was winging it on the middle strings all the time and not following the radius of the neck, just laying them down, then raising till the buzz stopped. So trying to pick up all the proper tools for doing setups.

Doing ok so far with the rat tail and FEA dual band distortion. Still waiting to start jamming again so I can test these pedals in the mix before going full nuts-o again on peds. Did get unmixed/Unmastered copies of the bands recording and it sounds killer already. Prolly finish up guitars in the next week or so then start vocals. Hopefully when guitars are done we start jamming again.
