Denver has the most concentration of nightlife. There are 2-3 good shows on any given night.
If y'all need to know about venues, I can get you that info. Westword, is the Denver local rag. They always have the venues/gigs listed. There are too many cool ass bars too.
I love a lot of parts of Colorado. My wife and I don't plan on staying put here (Oklahoma) terribly long, but for as long as my mother-in-law is still kicking at least.
We've pretty much narrowed it down to relocating to certain parts of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico or Texas. I've lived in Arizona and Texas, spent a lot of time in Colorado...We'd move back to Oregon possibly too, though probably not to Portland proper. However, as much as we love the PNW and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, I have a feeling we'll likely not move that far, so Oregon is kind of hovering at the bottom of the list at the moment.
I've lived all over the US from Minnesota to Texas and from New York to Oregon. My favorite states so far (to live in) have been Arizona and Oregon. Maybe we should try a new state we haven't lived in. I have to say, legalization is very appealing, but wouldn't be a deal maker/breaker really.

Don't take my hate for transportation in TX for all around TX hate. Its just a bad place for vacay if you plan on doing any driving. Everything is bigger in TX, so everything takes longer in TX.Where is the dislike/secede button when you need it
from the perspective I totally understand. Just drove three hours to get back home from austin.
I want to go to the islands that border mexico, but that's like a 20 hour round trip by car from my house.
It is true that if you are driving across TX, especially east-west (or vice versa) you get to a point where you think you'll never get to the other damn side of the state.
But TX is very culturally diverse and very diverse in terrain/topography. The only thing it really doesn't have is Rockies-like mountains. It has mountains; just not "big ol' mountains."
Yeah the " spaces in between "are impossibly long but cities like Houston and Dallas are hell to drive in too.
Too many people and not enough reason to use public transportation.
I do miss some stuff in TX, like the rose farms in Tyler and the international part of Houston but not enough to drive through it again. It'd be neat to see the assend of the Ozarks too. Maybe peek at skunk-ape.
SXSW might be worth flying in once. Maybe.
Yeah, I have never cared for Houston and I'm sure Dallas has gotten more traffic-laden since the last time I was there. I was born in Austin and used to spend all my Summers there, but lordy has it grown and gotten expensive.
In my experience, the "spaces in between" are worse in Wyoming. They can be long in TX, but often there you'll cross through a number of small little podunk towns on your way from one place to another. In Wyo, man, it can be hundreds of miles between towns and literally nuthin' in between.
Born in Austin too, and it has by far the worst traffic. From the 35 MLK exit to the riverside exit is like the worst stretch of road I've ever experienced... And did so daily for a few years.
Overall I think austins stretch of 35 is the mostly deadly stretch of road in the state, maybe US. Dallas is terrible too, but at least people survive the journey!
I won't voice my opinions on houston, other than to say it smells bad.
Yeah, I'd have to really map it out in my head again if we were to relocate there. I have a good friend in Nacogdoches, but after years of being there, he has come to dislike it a lot and keeps talking about moving to West Texas if he can find a house in a dying town of ~200 people. He's...umm...pretty reclusive.
I haven't been there in many years, but I always liked San Antonio. It may be a hell-hole now for all I know.
My wife watches some home renovation show based in Waco and she keeps telling me how nice that town seems to her...what she can tell about it from a TV show.
I actually always liked Denton, though again, its been a good while since I've been there...
PS-- Muddslide Trivia Fun Fact: My family helped found Paris, TX and there is a street bearing my last name there. My family name is French-derived (though I have more Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw and Scot-Irish blood than I do French.) I am not sure whether my family coming from France has anything to do with the town being named Paris.
Speaking of Texas I watched this flick based in Texas last night. Pretty darn good and even a mention of Denton in there, plus Addison Timlin is pure yummy. The girlfriend's kin is from Waco, and she is hinting about visiting there, I would rather visit west of the 100th meridian to see the dry side, already seen plenty of flat and humid living in Virginia and Florida though I still miss Florida and would live there again.

Hmmm. A remake? Looks like it. Gotta see that. I saw the original version of this back in the 70s and it scared the bejeezus outta me. Like, I remember thinking it was far more scary and anxiety-inducing than most horror movies I watched back then...
