Well I guess the real question is will the EW tone work in the band. I know that bands like crowbar and down had active basses and SS amps but their more sludge then doom.

The Tim Bagshaw tone is more of a curiosity, but if I were to play doom full time, I'd want to play something more along the lines of EW. Crowbar and down, I already am using pretty much the exact same signal path as them.
I think the majority of the guys in this thread use SS gear...
Not at all in this thread. You have a bunch of wankers out there dressed in '70's garb that stand in front of vintage gear for image.
But then you also have guys like @mc_muench who haul around a million pounds of SS peavey gear.
The guy here never got back to me for two days then deleted the ad... No Easter GK for this guy.
Kramer I've seen in live vids, but Ive seen pics of the EB-3. I don't think it matters. The low tuning with fingerstyle, muff and cranked SVT probably do the most tonal coloring.
No clue about spectors as they look weird to me and I've never seen one in person anyways. That said doom isn't picky nor does it require a lot of capital to get started. Peavey gets the job better than done.
My favorite doom tone I've acquired was my Squier bronco tuned to B > Joyo ultimate drive > gk mb500 > dually or bassic.
I will say I really enjoy a thick solid clean tone that can cascade into dirt. I don't think everyone here feels that way though. Most everything I chose to keep is bottom of the barrel (by choice). I love squiers, Dano effect pedals, and peavey heads. My biggest peeve though is speaker distortion or cab chuffing from poor design. So I got a really nice custom cab. I also lucked out and had a cash surplus and picked up a dunwich custom preamp. So I have a very nice setup that together cost over $2k and another that barely cost over $200 and I play them both with equal enthusiasm.
He used both those basses.
For shiz and giggles here is live footage with the Kramer and then the band having a hissy fit amongst themselves and all taking turns walking off stage being dicks. They broke up as that lineup after this im pretty sure.
This thread is filled with a lot of pragmatism when it comes to gear. In other words, how can I get the biggest/loudest rig for my budget. Pretty decent mix of solid state and tube, both vintage and modern.

Hey and welcome. I don't like getting too genre-label specific just because people have different tastes and opinions. You happen to have wound up at one of the coolest corners of the web. But a lot of places you'll get flak like "Hey, that band isn't really doom. They are more like Norwegian death troll folk metal with stoner/sludge overtones!"
IMO, one of the hallmark releases of Doom is "Dopesmoker" by Sleep.
Now I'm basically just gonna list some heavy bands I dig...not necessarily doom, just good, heavy chit:
High On Fire, Sunn0))), Weedeater, Kvelertak, Entombed, Acid King, OM, The Sword, Orange Goblin, Goatsnake, Black Cobra, The Melvins, Bloody Panda, Electric Wizard...
There are also several brothers right here on this thread with absolutely kickass bands that deserve your attention...apologies if I love anyone out, but Milk Duct Tape, Monobrow, Hex Volt and Still Valley.

Only thing I got right now that has PVYHenge...this tone is basically just a really hot P bass into my SS Vulcan into a 218, with a bunch of sub lows coming from a second stack.

I just recently got into doom/stoner but I'm obsessed with Solace right now. I heard they broke up though.
I actually think I want to re-record that track. Although Im quite happy with it for sure, were just much tighter playing it now and I know we can do a lot better...I also wish we could have mic'd things differently for me.
I'm just saying you don't rock any tubes.... can't be a wanker if you're in front of a peavey rig.
Got about a 6 hour break between closing last night and having to be back to prep this morning. Just about to open up for brunch service. So much for a day off.
I prefer to think of myself as an impurist.
Tubes are just a shortcut to a particular tone and feel.
Most folks here are getting their dirt from pedaks anyways.
There are also bands which I refer to as more traditional doom. Gates of Slumber, Reverend Bizarre, Blood Ceremony, Blizaro to name a few.
A bunch of good bands on this thread too that you should check out. Most of us have links in our signatures.
this is why i'd never pay money to see these guys, this plus I think they are way overrated. They have their moments here and there but most of their material is a snore fest for me,
