Shvt. Turns out the Terror Bass dude probably scammed me. Doesn't answer emails, doesn't answer phones, no contact whatsoever. Good thing is, I bought it on a local auction portal, so they're going to refund me, but it might take a month or two given all the paperwork.
And to think I've already almost bought a cab for that head...

I'm really pissed off right now.

My guitarist is always pushing my boundaries trying to make me a better musician which is awesome. Lately he wrote a new song in open G tuning which means I'm tuned to DGDG. It's like I've never shaging played bass before haha.

So two tracks from the new Weedeater album are now available to stream. What are people's thoughts so far? I'm a pretty big die hard Weedeater fan but the new tracks are instantly forgettable for me. Struggling with if I should preorder the new album or not. I wonder if the songs just aren't that good, or if their style and formula has run dry to my ears.

my guitar player will use alternate tunings as well, but i usually will just stay in standard.

Haven't heard the new tracks, Jason the Dragon was the first one of theirs that I didn't buy. Still a huge fan of the band, will still always go to see them live, but I'm less excited to have their studio albums. God Luck and Good Speed, Sixteen Tons are great and still get semi-regular spins though.

I know this is a popular topic but I'm too lazy to search this thread. I need to give my basses a nice setup before the studio next week. What strings are you guys using for C standard and drop A#? Brand, Style, Gauge? Something that can be purchased at GC and hopefully aren't too bright at first.

I use GHS bass boomer 115s now. But i like a bit of wet noodle.

So playing power chords isn't chords technically, but also isnt a riff because it isnt a single note?

technically a chord requires the use of a 3rd or minor 3rd interval to define it as major or minor. a power chord is the root and the 5th. the third is not played and therefore leaves the "chord" as ambiguous. of course the bass, melody or lead line can play the 3rd/minor 3rd instead and imply major or minor but then it is the combination of instruments that are actually forming the chord and not the guitar playing the power chord.

the definition of riff is very loose. most would define it as a short repeating pattern. generally it would be single notes but that has evolved a lot in rock music especially to include power chords and/or chords.

i'm really trying to write more complementary basslines instead of following the guitar riff. I am very concious not to force it though, and that sometimes playing in unison is the "correct" thing to do. There are places though where I want to go on a tangent and that's where the chord vs scale comes in. Should I use the chord tones or scale notes of the riff? It sounds like I should approach the riff more from a scale than a chord which is the opposite of how I've generally approached it. Looks like I have some experimenting to do.

I still kicking myself for not fully listening during my 13 year of classical music in school. My hands know theory but my brain does not...

Were in the same boat, I trying to not follow the guitarist as much on this new VEGA material. Which is going to punch you people in the guts, if you thought our first album was riffy, oh boy just you wait!
