Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Going back to that church in a day or so for a great deal on a power amp and another piece of gear that looks to be very interesting.

Edit: For bringing so much attention, there isn't much information about the Demeter so I emailed the company. I saw online the current rendition is like $899!! I guess not many people buy them?

Also this setup will be a 2 space power amp, the 1.5 space Demeter and a 1 space effect unit he has (surprise for later). What else am I gonna need to get this rack up and running correctly? Rack gear gets tall fast and I don't want that.

Take everything they have, at as cheap of prices as you can.


Then go tell the AMPS sub forum about it. I love seeing them get all riled up about jebus.

it does the vintage 60s sound pretty well but if you're looking for an aggressive sounding P then i would not recommend it.

Good monday morning everybody. Jamming some Sasquatch and pounding iced coffee. Still pretty pumped over our show saturday night. Office is mostly empty - bosses and co-workers are gone at the NAB show all week - I'm the "point person" for the department while they're gone. Sh*t yeah, big time now.

My stock 74 :). Only other I can think is a PAF dimarzio but they are a different beast all together. Here is a list of pickups I have tried:

Hated-
Spb-1
Spb-2
Spb-3
Fender 62
Stock fender 80's JBS

were ok-
Np4
Lollar
Around 2008 stock fender
P46

Liked/ loved-
Dimarzio model P and older PAF
Stock 74 & 68 Fender P
Stock squier '83 '57 re issue

Haven't tried and on short list-
Hanson neo punch
Curtic Novak p90

Anything advertised as 60's is now a immediate no go for trying out. Even though the np4 is 60's based I didn't put it in the hate list because I thought it beat pickups advertised as 60's. Also a strange revelation. My previous favorite pickup was my buddies '68 in his '72 p bass but after putting rounds on my '74 I like my '74 better. My '74 has pretty much had flats since day one. I just did a set up on my friends '72 with new strings and did a shootout with the '72 and '74 (which has used rounds on it) and I liked the '74 better. The 74 was louder and more hollow sounding. The reason I won't use it live and will likely put flats back on is because I still love the roto flats on it and refuse to put heavy strings in it to tune it to drop B for the metal band.

I usually can't hear too much differnce between pups once in a band mix and at volume. the two exceptions were the Model P, which I liked, but i found too aggressive at the time, and the P46 which I really really really hated. All mud for me.

I need to listen to their stuff. Saw them at a free outdoor show on my birthday 4 or 5 years ago. It was the Roots and Black Keys and the Roots just blew me away, it was an incredible live performance. Black Keys just seemed kind of flat and boring after that. They should have gone on first because the Roots blew them off the stage.
