Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Forgot to ask, what band do play in? I was debating on going but Bongzilla was just about the only band I knew/wanted to see. And I play shows with those guys side projects on a somewhat regular basis so i decided to save my cash. I have to say my favorite band from the Bongzilla saga/world is a tie between Cuda or Mikeys new band Dos Males.
I'm in VX36. We're on tour with striker and artillery (I'm on the same bus as artillery) and we were coming through the area.

I actually played that same stage that night. Perhaps a few stomps could correct the gain problem? One of the reasons I'm into the bassmans (bassmen?) too is cause they're cheap compared to other tube amps of the era.

It would definitely help. Again, I am not saying it isn't possible. I am just speaking from my experience with a 70w 1978 silverface. If you like them and want one then go for it. If it were me, I would save up enough for a larger head or go with a SS and use pedals. Cheap old tube heads are out there.

2 100 watt Marshalls through a full 8x12 stack each isn't a LITTLE ridiculous ;) I have no idea how you do it.

The answer is always more. Really hoping that this potential buyer flakes on this CL seller. An SVT-CL for $650 would be killer.

They sound awesome, but I think you'll find them underpowered for doom purposes. I think they're 60-70W.

Maybe two of them, each with huge cabs might work?

Otherwise look into the new Bassman 100T or 300.

Those new bassmans are way different than the originals yea? It's paramid and graphic EQ and stuff yea?

Old Bassman is naturally scooped

Got my 120 watt peavey rockmaster for under $300. I traded for it with a 160 watt alphabass that was acting up. Most vintage peavey tube heads are much cheaper than fender.

Yes, yes it would be. Where'd you find that deal?

Interestingly enough, I was talking to Heather about how I'd love to own a B15N, but that it was a bit of a pipe dream at this point. She didn't know what I meant by flip top and I knew that there was one for sale on CL in Booneville MO. I just searched Ampeg and saw SVT-CL for $650. The ad said that it was sold pending payment and that it would be removed upon final sale. That posting and update were 10 days ago, so I emailed the guy thinking he forgot to take it down. Got a response this morning saying that the buyer was pretty unresponsive and that he would give him until Wednesday. Apparently he is selling it for what he has in it and just wants it to go to someone who will play it.

I thought about doing this, and am still on the fence about it. The amp isn't really in the budget at all, but I have the money and will survive with the expenditure. It certainly isn't everyday you see one go for that low so I am eager to jump on it. If money becomes an issue, I could easily flip it and turn a decent profit. Hell, I could flip it immediately for a decent profit, but SVT nah meen?

We will have to see. Another $50 will not break the bank, but since it is an unnecessary purchase in the first place I kind of want to wait it out and either get it for $650 or miss out.

Whoa, that's cool! Admittedly I am unfamiliar with Striker. However, I listened to Artillery way back in my Mexican dirtweed days...nice guys?

Do they enjoy any American beer?

I shagin hate striker anyway lol. It's a Canadian thrash band that dresses, acts, and sounds like iron maiden. No originality to it whatsoever. Artillery is amazing though. Yes all of them are super nice guys. I've been dealing with a lot of personal issues lately and i couldn't have asked for a better group of guys to be with. They're all hella funny too. They like PBR a lot. They like Danish beer better but they still drink a ton of American beer. But yeah, super, super nice guys.

I'm currently using SS. I'd just like some insight on what would make it more doomy, because right now it's primarily geared towards metal. It cops the Rex Brown sound really well.
Tell me more about the peaveys?

Ditch the svt-4 or Eden and go SVT lows and low mids, sunn mids and highs.

Or ditch svt-4 and Eden. Get a dually too.

Or stuff

I think I am trying to get to much for the Eden. I bought it new for $650 and it is an american made Eden. I'd like to get $500-$550 for it, but I have had one nibble in the last 6 months or so. That nibble was almost a hook, until the buyer found a WT-800 for the same price the day before the sale was going to take place. But yes. I will have to sell the Eden if I get the SVT, and likely sell it for cheaper than what I'd like to but trade-offs and such. As for the 4 pro, I'll sell that as soon as I know that I can keep up with my band without it.

Duallies good sir. They are in the plans for my gear fund. In all likelihood my SB-2 will probably have to go as well to fund this ****. I have come to terms and am good with it at this point. I just gotta do it.

Artillery is amazing though. Yes all of them are super nice guys.

That is so cool to hear. Glad those guys are still at it, though I know they've had a few extended hiatuses.

Holding good thoughts for your personal travails. Humor is an excellent balm for being down in the dumps.

Rating American beers...
