Laz was maintaining a forum member band list. Not sure if he still is. I don't think you could go wrong with anyone's band. In my opinion, we have some of the best music being made, right here on our corner of TB. I need to get some cash and start buying more stuff too...

Earthless came to mind, but then I wondered if you might be thinking of Grails? Grails hailed from Portland. I am not sure if they are together anymore. I know some members are playing with other bands and from what I've heard they don't plan on touring anymore, but they might still do recording projects.

Even if it wasn't Grails you were thinking of, they are a worthy band.



I've played several Wildcats. They have been through a few variations over the years, some special editions, etc.

I think they are good instruments; my only real beef with them is that they are so small-bodied. That appeals to many people, but I'm a big guy and if I were wanting a big hollow- or semi-hollow guitar I'd want something bigger like a Gretsch 6120 or a Gibson ES125 with a cutaway or something.

My problems with Wilshires and Crestwoods, cool as they are, is that every one I've ever played had such a thin neck joint I was afraid I'd snap it off just in regular playing. Ric guitars give me the same jeebies. Just seems too thin to be stable. Just my personal quirks though. I've been hurt before. Real bad.



I love the Dano Pros. Love the body style. Again, too small for me though. Played a few of the reissues and dug them, but it felt to me like playing a cereal box with a neck stuck to it.

Dano basses sound like nothing else to me. I really like 'em a lot.

I actually dig the wildcat because of it's smaller body. The bigsby equipped ones look cool, but hardtail might be easier.

Neck through wigs me out too, I just feel better with bolt on. Besides it seems like at least 1/3 of SG's on Craigslist have a neck repair.

I need to try a dano guitar, I loved my longhorn bass. P90's, singles coils especially bridge pickups like a tele with tone pot disengaged are my thing.

I love a Bigsby and have had them on some Teles and Gretsch guitars I've owned, but they are fussy as hell and make re-stringing a byotch.

I'll never own another neck through or set neck. With a bolt-on, it's easy to replace the neck. Set necks are much more difficult/expensive to repair.

I used to own a '76 Gibby Walnut SG that looked just like this:

...I had it for many years. One night it had been passed around and played by a few people in my dorm room. It was left leaning against a chair for a few seconds. In that time a drunken friend stumbled and broke the neck on it in a horrific spiral fracture that went from the heel to the 12th fret. I shopped it around, but it would have cost more to repair than it was worth at the time (1987 or so.)

I have a big affection for Tele bridge pups, and have even stuck them at the bridge position on a couple of Strats before. Also a P-90 fan. I was a huge Gretsch guy when I was playing more guitar, so I really love Filtertrons and such. Unique sounding.

Always boosted for Danos too. Just think their stuff is cool. Lipstick pups are the awesome.

This veteran thinks Ted "The Nuge" Nugent is garbage at best and treasonous at worst. I did buy his albums when I was young but he'll never get another cent from me.

Fugg pollen. My head feels like it's going to explode and meds're making me sleepy.

In bass fuzz newz, the new Morley Power Fuzz Wah reissue is pretty solid. It has two fuzz tones via a vintage/modern switch; I think the modern setting sounded good at band practice with the Chinabacker. The wah is good, but doesn't quite have the range of a PWF or PWB. Close, but not quite there. Upgrades include modern powering (9v or Boss style), LEDs and input/output jacks on correct sides.

Man, that's a sad story, but you're right, set neck guitars have to be babied at all times.

Yeah the pollen combined with the remnants of my recent cold/sinus infection is wreaking havoc on my head. I still managed to get in a nice trail run this morning though...:hyper:

You are right. But I've never been a big whammy bar user. I never got into the wheedly-whee in the dog frequencies thing, or dive bombing when I played guitar.

However, I like a subtle vibrato now and then, like in some rockabilly, surf music....hell, Neil Young makes his guitar shriek with one.

But they are pains in the pooper, no doubt.

Hear, hear. I'm also pretty apolitical and don't want to muddy this thread with a diatribe, but Buckley was a true old school conservative, as in the least amount of government intrusion into the private lives of citizens as possible.

Those people are gone today. Now we have neo-cons posing as conservatives, but they are as Big Government, Big Brother, nanny state, invasive as you can imagine. Too many of them also pepper their politics with fundamentalist religious views, IMO.

This isn't an endorsement of the Dem Party either. I don't like any of them

I like them because I think they look cool. If I had a guitar with a bigsby I would probably not use it at all.

As for the Nuge, total douche. Cat Scratch Fever is still a cool song though.


I have a strong feeling that the SVT-CL was never actually for sale. Original post and sold update were on the same day 13 days ago. I was told by the seller that he would wait until Wednesday for the buyer. Now I am being told that the buyer is his cousin (the reason more money for an immediate sale didn't work) and that he is supposed to be paypaling him the money. I am not at a loss by any means, but this guy was in consistent communication with me and got me very excited. I am not really sure why he even bothered with a CL post if his cousin was interested and he was willing to essentially wait until whenever for payment from him. Not a big deal as CL burns happen frequently everywhere, but still kind of a big bummer for my week as I have been excited all week thus far. Oh well I guess.
