Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Time to switch up some stuff with my rig.
Thinking of getting rid of the dually. The sound is incredible, but there is something just not right with it. A while ago I had a speaker "go bad"; it buzzed and buzzed, but I couldn't visually see anything wrong with it. My tech couldn't find anything wrong with it either. Got a free replacement and a few months later, the same speaker that I replaced started the same buzzing. I get loud, but I never go ballz out, or anything. Bottom speaker has always been fine. I play a lot of clean with delay during our stony jams and the buzz kills. And I don't know if most cabs are like this, but access is really limited and kind of a pain to investigate poopie speakers.
Another thing is road worthiness. We occassionally hit the road and do plenty of local shows, so while this thing doesn't live in a trailer, it does get moved around a lot. For local shows I put in the back of my Subaru and all is well. Except that it already looks beat to poopie; worse than any of my cabs/amps that are over 20 years old. The screws that hold the corners protectors in are too short and have essentially weasled themselves out. Going to be buying new duratex, corners, and longer screws, and a new Kappalite and refinishing this thing. THen getting rid of it. I'm not rough with my equipment, at all, but this thing is not meant for ANY kind of abuse.
Looking at Ampeg 215e, or 810, as well as GK 412 for bass. I realize they'll sound different than my dually and be quite a bit bigger, but I'm a strong dude that doesn't mind heavy stuff, plus I have dolly.
Fender Blacktop is on its way out, also. Great feeling bass, but I think the super super hot humbuckers, combined with a super heavy pick hand, lead to some input levels that doesn't quite sound right. I played my dad's Fender American P and loved it. Need to check it out with my current gear to see how I like it. Definitely digging the deluxe versions withe P+J config.

They are JAW-DROPPING live. Don't miss them if they come to your town.
My band Centaurus is opening for these guys on may 15th here in tulsa. I'm excited to see them.

Sold off my Bass Soul Food on Reverb for more than what I was asking on CL. I'll consider that a win. Still have my chinese mini pedals, a shallow 3RU case and a patchbay up. No bites lately so I might pay for some bumps or drop the prices a bit. Got a pile of other random stuff that can go up too, just need to find time to do it.

I made 350 on the Corns. Lost a few bucks on the Red RB after shipping... Everything else has been a far market price. I'm justifying some of the losses as GAS rental fees.
Well I finally had band practice last night and literally threw this board together shortly before I left to go jam. If anyone remembers I had the problem with my "dirt" tone. I was doing a lot of knob turning on the rat at practice trying to get it to work. Every time I got what I thought was a good/usable tone it would not work with the band mix. I pretty much set the FEA a few weeks ago and it worked out way better then the rat. Now my new problem is that it's not only on loan from a friend, it is no longer made. Search continues
Before i read the post, when i first saw those thumb pics, i thought the guy had done that to his thumb from playing bass! That would be punk rock

Here's another thought: deconstruct your signal chain. Start with bass--> amp. Try it in a band situation, see if you can get what you want. Start doing this one pedal at a time, all in a band context. Then, if you still haven't found the tone, start to mix and match with multiple pedals.

That Earthquaker Devices Sound Shanks sounds pretty cool on bass.
