Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Well I just had middle management stop by. Seems that someone has taken note of the early in, and out time. Even though I am working a full 40 hours, and some times more with out getting paid for it, it seems there is a problem with me leaving when I do. This is to accommodate my second job, and it seems that they are going to push the issue.

Fugging pisses me off. Cant win for trying.

Fvck middle management. Was the person who mentioned it to them upper management or just a schlub? If word came down from on high you may well be truly screwed, if it was just a schlub complaining, maybe try talking to someone above middle management?

No clue. I suspect someone figured out that I am working two jobs, and they dont like anything eating in to your availability around here.

Is there anyone in management who you feel can be an ally in this? If there is, a simple "I need the extra dough from my second job." MAY be enough to get them to work with you..

Well, I knew it was stupid to think I could hold onto any gear.

Not only won't be getting any kind of amp, I am now reduced to selling as much as i can. Selling all guitars, putting Mexican P bass on CL...probably have to sell the Lotus P.

This will leave me with a flood damaged SX P bass I have to put back together and a tiny crap practice amp.

Worst part is I probably won't clear $500 from everything and it still ain't gonna cover all the chit i need to pay this month and won't help next month at all.

One step forward, 50 yards back...on the verge of hanging up playing music altogether. Why bother.

Sucks being poor. I know i'm still better off than most people in the world and I am thankful for what I have, but why bust my ass working all the time when i can't even support my family?

I'd be better off fvcking off everything and telling the wife and kids "Get rid of everything that won't fit in a backpack. We're living in a tent by the side of the road from now on."

Sorry for b!tching like a little girl.

Not really. Above her is the departmental director, who has told me I would be better off moving to the warehouse to drive a hilo, and that I "just look like a cab driver." Next step up is the VP of all R&D. He doesnt know me from adam.

Muddslide, sorry to hear it. Keep your head down and keep working, it won't always be this bad.

Julian - You just can't catch a break and that blows. You're a hard working employee that doesn't shag around or miss work, it's too bad that the folks in charge don't seem to recognize that.

We had to do this touchy feely "strengths builder" team exercise. To help us understand where we can rely on others. It gives you your top 5 strengths, that can be spread out in 4 categories. I was the only member of my team to have one in each of the 4 buckets. Everyone else was centered in 2. How hard does one have to work, and how well rounded do they have to be, before it starts to count?

GALLUP-Strengths Finder said:
  1. ANALYTICAL - People who are especially talented in the Analytical theme search for reasons and causes. Then have the ability to think about all the factors that might affect a situation.
  2. ACHIEVER - People who are especially talented in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.
  3. RELATOR - People who are especially talented in the Relator theme enjoy close relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction i nworking hard with friends to achieve a goal.
  4. IDEATION - People who are especially talented in the Ideation theme are fascinated by ideas. They are able to find connection between seemingly disparate phenomena.
  5. COMPETITION - People who are especially talented in the Competition theme measure their progress against the performance of others. They strive to win first place and revel in contests.

So by their definition I am a producer. They know all that, and have it on file to compare against their other employees. They love to taute others strengths when it suits them, but seem to down play mine when they feel like it.

Super frustrated today guys. Sorry for the rant.

Bills and work stress both suck big time, I sympathize with both you guys. My gear purging has become a philosophical exercise at this point, what do I really need vs what do I just like having? Good thing money was our baby for so long, so I have plenty of crap to sell and supplement my income now that a baby is our baby. I'm on a gear purge spree through Reverb right now, trying to fundraise for my son's first birthday.

Hang in there Julian. Keep on top of looking for new employment opportunities, short sighted middle managers can really ruin what would objectively be a fine working environment.
