Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

In my rather new quest for a Dano Daddy-O for my guitar rig, it appears there are two versions: the original, and the surface mount version. I would prefer the original, so if I ever want to mod it, I could. Anybody know a way to tell the two apart besides taking the pedal apart and checking the insides? I'll likely have to buy it online and would like a way to visually confirm via graphics, font, logos or something like that I could see in a picture. Thanks!

Like the Legend CB158's in my other 215, which I play full out often with the same amp, and are lower wattage, Maybe the Faital's do? Any experience or thoughts? I'm just worried I guess. Sound Quality never was unusual. Even after the smell, I played for a bit more thinking (**** it, if I'm hurting these with only this wattage, I need to know now). Got nothing but glorious sounds from it though.

Sometimes when driving mine hard with fuzz and lots of bass for long practices I get a kind of smell from the faitals in the dually, or atleast that's where it seems to be coming from. So far so good there Doesn't appear to be any visible damage and I've been doing it for awhile something like 8 months I think. They still sound fantastic. I kinda figure I'll just keep on trucking as long as there's no audible deterioration from them.

If yes, pull the speakers now and check their surrounds for glue degredation.

Ah yes, I recall hearing that at one point. Thanks! I don't believe so. There was some glue that looks and fills sort of like silicone, but dries hard unlike silicone, and is a glue technically I believe. Will check to see if it's silicone based. Otherwise Titebond woodglue and PL Premium was used, which both were dry long before the speakers were in.

Also, consider getting that baffle attached permanant-like and check tuning again. Small leaks could change that.

I guess I haven't physically confirmed tuning yet. Just what WinISD says it should be based off of final volume and port size/length. Was going to do the rice/salt test as soon as the baffle is affixed, and hardware is sealed. Then adjust as needed. Will definitely get the front baffle permanently affixed asap.

PL premium is much like (at last viscosity-wise)traditional silicone caulk when it goes on but dries hard. Great stuff.
If your super motivated do the rice treat before and after sealing the baffle.
I'd be curious to know if you detect a difference.
Either way, love the look of the walnut.

In my experience there are just too many variations from bass to bass, even more or less identical 4001s and 4003s that rolled off the line the same year. Yeah im not buying one unless i can play it first, im looking for the ever ellusive baseball bat Ric. A 4003w or a natty 4003 would be close second to azulglo.

Had a good GH practice tonight. Finished the basic outline of another song. Our shortest yet. Were only 1 more song away from having our full length. Itll be 5 songs long.

It was almost a NCD. Well not new but I pulled the last LoRider 18 out of my 218+210 to put in my empty 118...and well, pretty sure the speaker is dead. Put it in and got nothing, tried the battery trick and nothing, tried measuring the resistance with my multimeter and nothing. It worked the last time I used that cab so I dont know what happened to it.

I was sooooooo close to having the perfect ratio...2 10s for every 18. With that 118 Id have 10 10s and 5 18s.

I have a weird relationship with B3K. It's either love or indifference. One time I had fresh set of stainless steels on my P and played with a pick - I was in overdrive heaven.
Right now I just feel that DOD250 fits better into what we play, but I'm certainly not crossing B3K out.
I don't mind a bit of low end loss as long as I get the tone I hear in my head.

Hey, don't let me tell you what to do on your rig! If you like it, do it! I just can't ever imagine getting rid of the B3K, and I really want the old grey 250. I don't cross most things out, either, that's why i usually keep a lot of stuff I can't quite get to work at the moment. You never know what you'll need next!

In my band, the music is so busy (NOT in a good way, either, but that's a whole other rant) that if I don't dominate the lows, you won't hear bass. It's ridiculous.

Thanks! I've also heard (and seen in different pics!) that the Daddy-O logo has the TM next to it in different places. One version has it "low", right on top of the period after O. The other has it "high" on the O. According to this site (at least assuming the placement is a consistent identifier) if the TM is high on the O, it's NOT surface mount. That's the version I want in case I end up modding it.

In other words, thanks for checking the battery hole, and if you can check the TM placement as well I'd be grateful!

From what I hear, the Grey Spec 250s don't lose low end. Hence my GAS for said 250. In all fairness, the most current version that I had didn't lose much, but I hate sacrificing any lows. It's one of my things. Unless the pedal is made to kill lows for some other purpose (like my flange), I NEED ALL THE LOWS!

Hey Squanch! (and anyone else who may like it), I watched a pretty cool movie the other day called "A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night", which is a Iranian film noir/arty/spaghetti western/vampire flick. Reminded me a lot of an Ingmar Bergman type of flick.

Good to know, I was eyeballing it but never gave it a shot yet. I started watching Zombeaver, pretty funny so far and smoking hotties in it too.
