No neck didn't budge and I didn't mess with the action or pups. Took off some super cheapie strings and replaced with daddario 110-55, all the strings have been nickle. My pedals and amp all sounded extra dull. The muff was the worst as it lost all its attack.
The Magnums I & II have the body style we think of when we think Magnums.
The body style changed for the Magnums III & IV.
Magnum I and Magnum III were passive. Magnums II and IV were active.

All so motherscratchin' hot...
I thinking so but kinda did the same thing when I put a set of 110-55 ernie balls on my white ric. Sounded great before the string change. I have a set of lightly used 105-50 off my 74 that now has flats so maybe I'll try that and see what happens at next practice.Maybe you just dont like this combo of strings/pickup?
That could be it but I don't have many local string choices and I hate havin to order strings. I don't have much toom to talk with your situation but it sucks. It's supposed to sound "better" after a string swap. But like I just said kinda did the same thing with the eb's and ric.to be honest, d'addario nickels always sound dull to me.
#3 and they don't know how to wire the bridge pickup so it only works in neck or both on. So I know it works and can haggle, but what's a good price?
Is this the only set that has seemed "dead"? They might just be bad strings. So I have a string question, ever go to a higher gage and your tone seems flat? I usually run 105-50 weather standard or drop c and when I switch to something bigger (110-55) I get the added tension but my tone gets extra dull. I tried to eq it out but wasn't successful. Even my pedals sounded funny. Everything was great last week before the string change. Thoughts? Mostly run daddario since it's available in the sizes I like.
I was looking on Reverb and the asking prices seem to be around the $1000 mark for the earlier body style and $700-$900 for the IIIs and IVs. If you can snag it for a good price and are confident you can do the work to fix it up (I don't doubt you!) then go for it, but haggle for sure. What are they asking on the CL by your folks?
No like I said kinda did the same thing with a ric and a p bass with some eb's 110-55. B I remember now I took that eb set off a p bass after in jam in favor of the ric so put them on the ric and didn't jive with either bass. I kinda knew it would be bad since don't care for balls but figured the daddario a would be better. Is this the only set that has seemed "dead"? They might just be bad strings.
Those ss strings? I try to stay away from steel since I have a heavy fretting hand. I play heavy flats and never notice a tension issue with theses meat claws.Re: strings, DR Hi Beams...plenty of zing, esp. with a pick.

I feel like I have a mistress now that I put Chromes on the Jazzguarbird. It feels so good and like almost too easy to play like I am doing something I shouldn't be doing...
I diddled your bass a little last night....
