Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I hate the anticipation of NPD! Especially since I ordered it right on a holiday weekend. No updates on shipping yesterday OR today - both of which were business days! What the heck, USPS? I NEED that Daddy-O!

Seconded. Waiting for attempt no. two with the Silver Rose. The dud version went out yesterday and I should have the new one by week's end. I'll admit that a lot of wind left the sail when the first one turned up a dud, but I remain hopeful for the mulligan'd one.

Which one did you order old or new? Aside from trouble modding what's the difference?

And if you were to mod either the daddy-o or fabtone what would you do?

I hope you don't get Munsoned

My understanding is there is no difference besides the trouble modding. I got the old one, at least that's what the guy on Reverb said. He claims to have opened it up and double checked against a picture I sent him of the bottom of a confirmed non-surface mount one's PCB. That will be the first thing I check once I get it in. And I keep thinking I need to check Fab-Tone mods, so thanks for the reminder! Though honestly, I like the Fab Tone as is. A little more versatility wouldn't hurt though. Just have to wait a while. I went on a hardware store binge and basically bought all tools I didn't have but needed.

I've read all I could about the pedals but it's been a while.

The fabtone mods seem centered on lowering the gain and a few other things that didn't seem to be issues in my mind. A lot of people hate the fizzy treble, but I either turn it off or low and it's fine on guitar. On bass it's kinda nice and gives it edge.

I adjust volume to taste, bass Max, treble off/max, fuzz off or max. Those are my settings for guitar or bass and I do both on both.

Daddy-o is pretty cool, idk what I'd change on it. It's a Marshall preamp. I'd just get a different OD I imagine.

Let me know if you scope anything cool though about them or mods, cool cat and dan echo info too!

My only real plan long term is put them all in a box with switching to change position in the chain. Like a multifx.

Yeah, after a cursory check, every mod is pretty much about lowering gain and making it "usable". Nobody wants the HM-2 clone that it is! But I DO! I really have no complaints with it at all. I lower the treble to 2ish (by lower, I mean the typical Dismember sound is everything dimed), lower the Fab knob to 9, and crank bass. Sounds really heavy, but not all the extra static. I really like it! Haven't tried much on bass, yet, but I know I preferred it to the Behringer HM-2 clone on bass.

Btw, the Arpanoid is pretty awesome on bass. Completely useless in a live environment unless I wrote a riff around it, but it'll be fun for future tracking. It keeps the low end.

Dude that told me he wanted some pedals and sent payment via PP (that didn't process) and disappeared reappeared; turns out he sent funds to a bum address. Got that corrected, got the $$$ and got two more peds sold!

I should compare it to a real hm-2 or let me know if you get a chance, as a more durable smaller package would be handy instead of keeping two. Or is there a fancier hm-2 clone with more things going on?
