I've used SS strings on my '73 Ric for 10 years. no real issues with frets.

There are plenty of HM-2 clones, actually. Lone Wolf Audio has 2 alone! And I believe I heard he's either improving one, or creating a third. They call theirs the Left Hand Wrath and the Texas Chainsaw. LHW has plenty of knobs to tweak, TC is all internal pots except for the volume. Wren and Cuff has the Hangman 2-D, BYOC has "The Swede", Behringer has the HM3000, Danelectro Fab Tone (obviously), DOD Super American Metal (4 knob version only), and Abominable Electronics has the Throne Torcher. That's all I can think of for now. My biggest concern with one of the fancy clones, though, is just the mindset. The whole Swedish Death Metal mindset was "crank everything and tweak the amp til it sounds good." Buying a fancy one just seems... wrong. Though I AM mighty tempted. One day, I might just pick one up.

I'll let you know if I ever get the chance to mess with the real thing or a fancy clone, but for now, my Fab Tone is nailing it!

EDIT: Just found another clone - the JD Music Labs Sunlight Buzzsaw. Trying to find more info, but a demo vid seems to nail the sound. It's another 1 knob job.

LWA if you want to wait an indeterminate amount of time and deal with a guy who blames you for the wait. I was refraining from any public smearing as I am currently entangled with this guy for two boxes and I really just don't like the idea of public smearing. Ordered both of my pedals the first week of January with an expected ship date of mid Feb. Now June is upon us and still nothing. Every email sent is responded to with "We are doing those this week, so you should have it mid to late next week at the latest." I am growing pretty impatient. At this point I am not sure I even want the pedals anymore. I have entertained the thought of filing a paypal claim to get my money back for goods not delivered.

I use Hi-Beams on my T-40. It is such a dark sounding bass, that without that top end zing it all kind of sounds like mush if the neck pickup is involved at all. It sounds great with the Hi-Beams though.

I need to try some PBR. First beer I ever drank but never had one again. I have been trying to buy some different old man beers lately to see if I still dig any. Surprisingly I found out a beer I used to love Yuengling, is not much love anymore. I also bought some Rolling Rock ol' 33, meh/yuck.

I like a lot of old man beers. I like fancier stuff too, and am really enamored of a good stout of late, but I also like cheap and unpretentious. All the classic OTC beers have one thing in common it seems like: all very hoppy, so you gotta be in the mood for that. I dig PBR, Hamms, Lone Star...I actually like Miller Genuine Draft a good deal too, though I don't care much for Miller High Life.

I'm not building it, ha no skill that way either. Squanch knows a guy, or I might shop around. I have the idea, but not the funds or concern yet. Fix and move what I got that I don't use Do a few more flips and see what it's gonna cost.

If I still had a router and bandsaw I would love to try making a cool body shape. All my decent power tools were killed in the flood. I've always wanted to build a body and just buy a Warmoth neck or something, but I'd probably waste tons of wood and money trying to do it right.

That ovation also tempts me something bad, it's cherry like an SG, $450. I'm gonna try $350, the pick guards several broken pieces, so I'd have to get one made, as well as do fixes. Who knows. I'll post some gear today in town and down the line of towns I'll be traveling through home and back.

Yeah I've mostly seen the Ovations in Cherry, Burst and that cool Greyburst. I'm not sure if they came in any other finishes. With the work it needs I bet he'd jump on $350, which IMO would be a deal. There are several places that will make you a pickguard from a tracing, and some of those places might even have a template for that very bass ready to go.

A few years back I used a place called Terrapin to make me a custom pickguard and truss rod cover for this:

I like craft beers and exciting new music. But I really do like Old Man Beers and Dad Rock too. And I just can't shake my obsession with acquiring, say, a 1982 blue-n-white Chevy Blazer to tinker with and go bouncing around the desert in. Don't know if any of that is related. Never mind. I've heard great things about their HM-2 clone as well. From what I have heard their stuff is top notch, and I was really looking forward to receiving my stuff. If you wanted to pursue one of their products I would just suggest trying to find one used.

If I was back home in PA I could get Yuengling and Stegmaier Porter for cheap. Miller Lite seems to do hops smack the least I guess, that was the family get together beer growing up. I also like the medium sweetness alcoholic wines, the kinds you put over ice and slam all day at BBQ's, like Lambrusco.

You might like some of the Bo Diddler bodies that Bobby the Builder makes. I was thinking of doing a bass version of the Diddler for a while there.

Yeah I prefer Stouts and Porters and Cider the most, the hops in the old man beer does hit me like a brick wall these days. If I was back home in PA I could get Yuengling and Stegmaier Porter for cheap. Miller Lite seems to do hops smack the least I guess, that was the family get together beer growing up. I also like the medium sweetness alcoholic wines, the kinds you put over ice and slam all day at BBQ's, like Lambrusco.

I love me some porters and stouts. My favorite beer that I have ever consumed was Big Sky Brewery's Cowboy Coffee Porter. I think it was a limited release, so I only have my memory of it at this point, but holy **** was it delicious.

I miss Mississippi Mud black and tan too. My buddy turned me on to black N blues. Guinness and Blue Moon those are super yummy.

...and yes, I AM the big Bo Diddly fan. Invented rock and roll (IMO) so, yeah.

I know a lot of people give Chuck Berry the nod for being the father of rock and roll, and I DO love Chuck Berry. A lot. But Bo Diddley's first single ("I'm A Man"--later made famous by Muddy Waters) was out a few months before Chuck Berry's first single and I think Bo was a little more diverse and original. Everyone knows the "Bo Diddley beat" and those tunes are great, but he experimented heavily, if you listen to some obscure b-sides or deep album cuts. Covered a lot of territory. He also built his own studio and recorded there, sending tapes to Chess records. That was absolutely unheard of back then when artists pretty much HAD to book studio time.

Bo also built a lot of his own effects pedals, a couple of early drum machines AND he had chicks in his band early on. I just think he was more innovative.

Oh yeah he does bass bodies and I know he has made a Type O NEgative Ric clone for a guy who bought a power amp off of me. That is his(his ol' ladies) ebay store. Can't get on FB at work but I will get you his site later. Also if anyone is looking to build he has got his hands on an Allparts unfinished jazz bass neck with the tags still on it. I thought about buying it but it has the truss rod in the neck pocket deal. He has a guy that does necks for him too.

Porters, stouts and IPAs. Mostly IPAs these days.
I've got a shop with local beers claiming they've got like 500 kinds of beer 100 meters from my apartment. Does miracles to my beer belly. In a wrong way

Also, another practice with new drummer went down tonight. The new singer was absent again, so I'm back on vocals for the time being. Our old stuff is kinda pain in the ass and we're still getting used to the new drummer, but the new stuff is coming along nicely.
Attitude in the band is way better than it ever was. I'm starting to wonder if we actually need another person.

Just talked to Bobby, his Facebook site is CSC guitars and he is doing Billy Bo Basses now he just sent me a cool pic of one with jazz pickup routes in it.
