Dryer conked out last night, took a half day so the landlord can come fix it. Good choice, weather's awesome, chilling on the porch waiting for dude to show up.
I'm glad I don't have to pay for all of these major appliances and their repairs.
This is one aspect of renting that I like. Although we do actually own our washer and dryer and when we moved into the place we're in we had to buy a stove and fridge because the landlord said he'd had so many of his ripped off. That floored me.
I have had MOSTLY good experiences with landlords (and fock that term "landlord."--this is 2015. We don't have "lords" here anymore. Henceforth I shall use "property owner.)
Anyways, most of the prop owners of places I've lived, I've had a good relationship with. But I've had a few who refused to fix anything. And trust me, we are dream tenants. I don't know how many people we've had tell us
"Dang, the house is cleaner and looks better now than when you moved in!"
I did live in a crappy hole apartment in Tulsa once with a couple other crusty punks and the guy who ran the place told me when I moved in that--against landlord/tenant law of the state and against the form lease that HE himself used--he would come into the apartment whenever he felt like it whether anyone was home or not. No advance notice, etc.
I just said
"Well, that's fine. But it's a damn good way to get shot. If I come home to what is supposed to be an empty apartment and see or hear someone inside, investigating will be the second thing I do." And yes, I am no stranger to firearms.
Far as I know, he never set foot in my place the whole time I lived there, whether I was home or not.
The family health psychiatrist that saw my wife for postpartum depression and anxiety, made my wife cry by insisting that whether or not she could breast feed on a certain medication was unimportant (because his kids never breastfed, his reasoning), made her have a panic attack, then offered to sell her his book on sound medical decision making while she was crying...just sent us a $635 bill for that half hour appointment. Which was months ago, we already paid a copay on and was based on a referral that we didn't request from the doctor that was seeing her normally in the same practice (because she didn't know anything about said medication). So now we have to jump through a bunch more insurance hoops again, probably just so that the insurance company can eventually say nevermind and don't worry about it. Either way it'll be a cold day in hell before I pay it.
As the husband of a baby-mama who's had her share of anxiety & panic attacks, some post-partum and breastfeeding related, I can't tell you what acts of violence I want to do to this a-hole. No really, seriously, as this is the internet and permanent record of all our communications, I really CAN'T TELL YOU the horrible things this person ought to have done to him. GAHHHHH.
Seriously. I am pissed off FOR you and your wife, Corey. I swear, if I was a woman I would be perpetually pissed off. I just think there are lots of things guys take for granted that are STILL huge pains in the @ss for women. And that kind of patronizing BS is just one of them.
If I was a woman I'm not sure I would ever have a male doctor or OBGYN or therapist. Obviously not all male docs/shrinks lack empathy or understanding of women, but I still think that stereotype exists of the hysterical, hypochondriac female whose problems can be dismissed out of hand.
Unprofessional hacks like the guy you and your wife saw are exactly the reason why so many people slip down into really sad, dark places.
