Planet Caravan is my #1 favorite Sabbath track, and also just a favorite in general. So spacey and jazzy, it's such a great piece.

Absolutely. I was re-reading your post and it's such a great rock and roll trajectory of youth from Chuck Berry albums to Zep at home to discovering AC/DC and other stuff for yourself.
My first couple of albums were Kiss albums...heavy into them until about '78 (three year veteran of the Kiss Army!) then got into Zeppelin in a huuuuge way. Ate, drank, slept Zeppelin.
Xmas when I was 11 or 12, my uncle--a massive rock guy/record collector--got me albums by AC/DC, Jimi and Andres Segovia.
Not long after, I was into Devo, Ramones and such in addition to more rockish stuff. I recall a bunch of Aerosmith, Alice Cooper and early Jethro Tull around this time too.
When I was 13 or 14 my mom put a cassette of "Ice Cream for Crow" by Beefheart in my stocking after asking a dude at the local Peaches record shop what she should get "for my teenage son who is into weird music."
All the while my dad was feeding me the best jazz and classical stuff.
My mom was also really into early rock n roll and soul/r&b stuff, so I got to spin her old Elvis and Jerry Lee and Ike Turner and Little Richard 7"ers. Still very into rockabilly and the early rock--Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley are my Jesuses. (Jesi?)

Still voting Stooges' Fun House as maybe my favorite rock album ever. And forkin' h e a v y for the time. Even the mellower cuts are heavy.
They went to LA to record that album, and allegedly Iggy, if not others, was dropping ever-increasingly large amounts of acid daily before getting to the studio. I can hear and feel this in the grooves.
Iggy, along with Lux Interior of The Cramps and early period Jagger are, IMO, The Greatest Frontmen in the History of Rock and Roll.

Laid down bass on 5 of the 6 tunes my buddy sent me. One is going to take some more time. Bone simple rock. Less than lo-fi. Cassette 4 track, one take stuff. Sounds like hell, quality-wise, and my playing sucks and I farg up stuff all over the place. But it all fits the spirit of the thing
I'm not mastering the tape, but my friend should have it all transferred to mp3s soon.

Hey, I'm not deriding them, I actually love most of them, but you can't deny they are mostly cheesy and campy as hell!
I have a buddy who's a connoisseur of those movies, the weirder and more twisted the better. In the university days we used to burn one up and watch them, like 3 at a time. Made my brain boil.
Blood Sucking Freaks, Wizard Of Gore, Psychomania, Simon King Of The Witches, most stuff that Vincent Price starred in, Dracula with Christopher Lee, 60's and 70's science fiction, 80's fantasy (Krull, Conquest, Dark Crystal, Willow). Yup, I'm a nerd too
As for Black Sabbath, my favorite moment in their music is the 1970 Peel session. It's raw, live in the studio, stripped down and heavy as fvck, way better than any live performance I've heard or LP stuff.
I've recently read Tony Iommi's autobiography (kinda boring, really, but OK for a summer read), he writes that the main difference between Ozzy and Dio was that Dio actually pulled his weight and really took part in creating new songs. That's probably the main reason why Dio years stuff feels more refined and polished.
Well, you know, Dio was also a bassist as well as singer in some bands he'd been in earlier.
I think I'm going to try and flip my 4 pro and pick up an svp pro I've found locally. I'm not sure I want to haul two tube heads to every show. 220w may be enough but it also might not be and with the gear thefts rampant in STL, I'd rather not risk losing my sunn. So I've been investigating preamps to run with a power amp for my eventual dually stack. I have not ever really been super fond of the svt pro series preamps, but the ampeg tone does work for me in most situations, and the svp pro or cl seem to be the best options available. I'll basically be making a two piece 4 pro with more power and half the weight.
The only other pre that really excites me is not out yet and will likely be cost prohibitive for a few years, and that is Eden's new wtp-pro. I have always loved the semi parametric Eden eq and a it serves as an outstanding clean pre with a lot of flexibility, probably more than most other amps. My thought is that pre with the right power amp would devastate as a clean loud pedal platform. I mean, the only thing I disliked about my WT550 was that it just wasn't loud enough for metal.

One guys in front of me for the sovtek head, dang hopefully he flakes or I get better info as its an hour away. I hear these are cool but can have issues, this ones missing an output for 16 ohms.

I grew up in the 80's so I listened and saw hair metal and that lead me to thrash, punk, and alternative music. the importNt thing I loved about the 80's was epic guitars were no matter the genre the guitar was always important and going to a guitzr store back ghen was always epic and sci fi cool with those pointy shredders hanging on the wall. I think pop music is even cheasier now just from lack of guitar you hear when forced to flip through the channels on a ride home. You don't even hear a guitar or true bass tone anymore. So cheese will always get spread but I prefer some guitar in my cheese.
I'm so damn angry with charter communications. Worst company I've ever had the displeasure of being forced to deal with. Over a month ago when I thought I was moving I asked about transfer of Internet services. The lady told me don't until I'm certain about the move. Well soon as I hung up I got a email confirming the transfer anyways.
Ever since I've been fighting charter. They keep opening accounts in my name at the house I didn't move to, cutting my existing service, and trying to charge me for the new place. Every time I've called they deny any issue and I just don't pay. They finally came out and physically disabled my internet without me being there due to one of there fake appointments I apparently set up. They then made me miss a day of work to be there for the reinstall. Then it kept getting taken away and new random bills showed up. I finally got some progress and my bill down to $30 a month. But I'm still losing my internet, getting weird pages and charter stuff constantly... I'm gonna be fighting them until my bill is free I think.

I wanted to go check out that Kawai at this shop that had since I was going to Richmond anyway. I got there and the place is closed. They close at 2pm? What the hell business closes at 2pm? Looked like a real cool place too. Like a flip anything buy and sell shop. Total random stuff.

Got my hands on the Black Sabbath Black Box remasters- holy crap they sound good. Reviews were pretty mixed when they came out, but i think they sound killer. Huge improvements on vol 4 and sabbath bloody sabbath especially.
Thinking about grilling up something delicous for dinner, trolling CL for deals, that's about the extent of my ambition for today.

Jan get you some kava and you will sleep like the dead. I can't get over how sound it makes rest. I even wake up about and hour earlier than i used to but actually feel refreshed.
Yeah, i stayed up late listening to records and drinking beer on the porch last night. Had i drank kava instead I'm sure I'd be much more rested today.
ISPs are generally awful.
The only one that wasn't was my town's public power company when they were briefly in the business. Comcast predatory priced them out of it, though.
Needs a knob or replacement set.
Can anyone get me a good gut shot of there blue beard? Specifically the tone pot bypass wiring and how it leaves and connects to the switch? I want to get my Bluebeard back in business and compare them.
Oh no, can't deny that for sure. That's part of the appeal to me.
