Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Yea I've decided I'm keeping it and my two bass vi's and a jaguar short scale. It still has yet to be wired up, but I got a couple 500k alpha pots a a couple different caps to try and some bead chromes.

Been listing and selling off the flock. Got a couple more pedals to buy (cathedral, SMMH, TS-1, fuzz face of some sort) and a squier mustang then I'll be dandy.

Bye bye Bronco?

It's the cheapest thing offered by fender I can always get another, but space reasons and the redundancy of the bass VI. I get the bronco tone or close to it and a ton more along with extra strings.

Sorry to harp on this, but hey...stuff interests me. Are you going to be guitar-less? I know you have the Bass VI's, but did you offload the Lyon?

I've about decided you are right as far as fixing up my SX Tele. May do it osmeday, but meantime I plan to pluck a cheap-@$$ Strat out of the trees. This no-fi cassette recording project with my friend is picking up steam. He's mainly drums/guitar, me mainly bass/occasional organ, but I am gonna want a guitar again if nothing else just for sketching out ideas and recording my own stuff potentially.

Strats aren't my faves, but they are pretty versatile and I'll probably be doing some surf-ish type stuff, so I'll want a whammy.

I use the Lyon a bit but jut feeling meh on it. I'll give it another shot while it's listed. I currently have a squier strat in pieces, a 70's? kawaii classical, an older ibanez acoustic, a jay turser electric/piezo reso guitar in pieces and the Lyon.

Right now after a bunch of reviews and clips I really want a mustang. The phase switching, crazy whammy is all so for me. So far my biggest determinant of a good instrument is two pronged. First if I get a good gut feeling having never played one its a good sign. Tele, bronco, mustang bass and bass vi have all done that. Second, once purchased the immediate realization I was right and subsequently riffs start coming out.

With the recording gear and me and my friend playing drums more and more at my place I'm getting more inspired and writing and playing more. I skirt across multiple genres so I've been trying to tie together several song shells with a common idea, finish them out as two piece me and my friend/other drummer. Most just need lyrics and drum parts maybe a section or two more on a few. Me playing Bass vi, or mustang w/slide.

Everyone, we've been having a little discussion on FB. We're trying to put together a bandcamp compilation of all our bands. 1 track from each. So if you have some recorded music or going to have something by October/November and would like to be included let me know.

It would just be something we could all use to help promote each other. If you are on Facebook, then send me (Sam Beydoun) a friend request and we can add you to the conversation.

What a great idea dude! I know we all try to promote each other anyway. I was actually making an electronic mix tape for a buddy with a lot of you guys on it. This will be fabulous!

Good luck on scoring a Mustang. Local CL had a Duo-Sonic listed today.

With you on "multiple genres."

Me and my buddy who are doing some recording both love heavy stonerdoomsludge but we've come to the realization that we'll never really be able to afford the gear it takes to pull that sort of material off in the right way.

I have always been a booster of cheap gear, but with doom, etc., I feel like it calls for higher quality equipment, especially when it comes to amps and recording gear. I just can't see ever being able to get there, but I have lots of other musical interests. I can always listen to good, heavy stuff and make other kinds of music I also enjoy but where lame sound quality doesn't have as great an impact.
