Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Setting up shows for the summer - one in August, one in September on the books. Might throw together an all-local one for July. One guitarist is out with hand injury and I was in Texas for work last week so haven't jammed in a while.

Attempting to learn fingerpicking on the acoustic guitar. It's going sloooooowly.

What part of Texas?

We got 4 songs mostly down. 4 more and we'll have our full set to start playing out. Need to get my pedals fixed and board running, my straight tones good but not right all the time or even 50% if the time.

I know, the description itself doesn't sound bad, but it just doesn't work. At least for me. Some people may love it, but I'm not into that tone at all. Reminded me of Meshuggah or something. Only used it for a few minutes then went back to guitar.

My TB tip to you.
It isn't taking me to anything.

bass sounds cleaner and guitar sounds dirtier when recorded. good luck convincing guitarists to dial back the dirt. a good example of well recorded dirty bass is Mother, Teacher, Destroyer by The Hidden Hand. it also helps that they didn't bury the bass in the final mix.
Not sure why that is. But I've definitely observed that to be the case. Another thing I like doing is layering a reverby clean guitar track doubling the overdriven tracks.

I don't need more gear. Why am I looking at c-list? I mean I love gear, but I really just wanna play more shows, go to more shows, jam more jams, write more songs, record more records...
but but wife, but but kids, but but job, it's okay really, I chose all these things. First world problems, how do I fit more awesome in my awesome life? ha ha.
But just a note to all y'all unencumbered freewheelin young'un whippersnappers out there.. quit obsessing about your pedals and and cabs and watts and just ROCK already, jam the riffs, play the shows, get that record out. We're all hurtling down a one-way slip-n-slide into the grave and you can't take your rig with you!

never mind back to work

Im building the henge to be buried in...so yes, im taking it with me!

Also my GAS has seriously gone down recently, esspecially knowing Im a couple weeks away from getting my VTA. I have my favorite dirts and really good examples of them and IMO the best reverbs, and a variety of awesome cabs. And PLENTY of amps, SS and tube now. The only thing Im really lusting for is a new bass like a guild or a real ric.

There is even a mini mountain things Ive been meaning to off load for forever...Im just turrible at selling things, dont want to deal with the deal or the people, so I might bite the bullet and take the hit by trading it all in, my MGR has a couple Guilds I want to try out.

I'm very satisfied with my current rig and am generally GAS free.

Duallies, I'll likely never "need" another cab. I'd say a nice 210 or 112 for apartment play, but the B15N pretty much annhilated any chance of this.

I'd like to replace my V4B and more over my V4B/2000s combo with an SVT or Super Bassman simply to reduce my moving of heavy amps by 1 and I think there are better options than the V4B. That said, I'm in no rush and am very happy with my current set up. Amp wise the only needs I have are road cases and possibly a 2 ohm micro amp as a backup.

Basses, I'm loving the J and T40. I need to work a P back in the mix. Gotta fix the wiring in my black fury. Maybe slight GAS for a MM Sabre or a Ric, but this gas has less fuel than my amp gas.

Pedals, I'd say always more, and with regard to building that holds accurate, but I'm actually pretty happy at the moment with purchased pedals. There are a few I'd like to try but none that are stimulating an account checking response.
