That's got to sound interesting none the less.

Ive been discussions with my guitarist how we have big gear, but we also sounded good using my mini drum kit, 1x12 valveking combo, and the bassic only.

So I think we are gonna do most shows heavy with big gear and two trucks. At the same time we can show up in mini form in my Corolla, for the times we don't feel like hauling, or have PA support and little setup time, or small house shows.

Nice, I love black/black/maple P basses. That's the scheme I used on the one I built. The covers are a nice touch, but you can always remove them if you don't dig it. What's the details on that? Year, price, etc.

I go back and forth on whether or not I like the vintage Fender "ashtray" covers, depending on the individual bass. Sam bought a bass that I was gassing over a while back, the MIJ 60's reissue Jazz bass in LPB, with matching headstock and tort guard. Those have covers and I think it looks amazing on that particular bass. I don't usually like them on P basses as much, though I think it looks cool on the one D.M.N. posted.

not mine but it looks the same except the headstock and controls. only problem with the covers is that i get a ton of feedback and squealing noises at loud volumes so I've kept the covers off for now.

Isn't your bound and blocked on the neck too Sam? I remember we were both looking at the same type of bass at the same time then. Possibly due to Atomic Bitchwax, I dunno. That guy rocks one pretty awesomely. He was the reason I got a Bassballs pedal, which I never ever ever ever used and then sold ha.

Maple neck blacked out P bass with covers is pure sex. Even just leaving the bridge cover on is nice.

my fingers usually are above or below the cover area even if I don't have them on.

I'm probably going to switch the guard to an aged white one/parchment if I get it, I don't want to be too Roger Water-y. As far as the details, it's a AV '58 Precision Neck, all the hardware is from the '58 spec sheet, and the body is a 2002 AVRI '62 Precision. So it's basically a newer '58 reissue just assembled from Fender parts. Price is $775, which is less that those necks normally sell for alone. So it's a pretty sweet deal.

I personally love the look of covers on Fenders, they just kind of look right like that to me. Probably because I also love excess chrome on cars. However, functionally, the pickup covers usually get in my way because I tend to play right over the pickup. Thus, I normally just leave the bridge covers on so that when I'm playing with a pick I can rest my palm there. Way more comfortable that resting it on the pointy bridge, but I can't really palm mute (not that I frequently do that anyhow).

That's the same reason I pulled the cover off the Ric 4003 I played for a long time. I tend to rest my thumb on the pickup and play over it. At one point in a previous band I adjusted my playing style to play softer and more ergonomic just under the neck joint on that bass and the Jazz and Precision I used after it, but I don't frequently do that anymore.
