My supporting membership expired, because I don't have the extra $30 to renew it. The only reason I ever had it is that I used to buy and sell gear on here all the time. I'm contemplating paying it on my credit card and putting up some more gear for sale, even though I'm down to the "won't ever part with" stuff. I can't really get precious about it at this point, when I'm dead broke for 2 years and haven't had a credible prospect for a band in longer. 2 years ago today is when I had an EP of rough material written and demo recorded, a drummer on board for a band, practice space rented and the guy totally flaked out and I haven't had anything beyond a sporadic jam session since. Last real band I was in (potentially at least, never played a show) recorded its demo in 2013 and fizzled out right after.
I've sold so much sleeper/hidden gem type gear over the past 2 years that even if I had money (I'd buy clothes and pay medical bills first anyway), it'd cost me 4 times what I sold it for to get half of it back. I'm getting down to the point where it's custom bass gear and recording gear that I've been holding onto out of hope. Nobody is hiring me to record or mix anything anymore, didn't get any referrals from the past projects I did that go release or bands toured on, so I'm not using the recording gear anymore either and I sold everything but the bare necessities I need to record full bands the way I want.
Sorry for the emo dump.
That's rough, Corey. If/when the current band gets its poopie together and records you're on my short list for mixing. Not that it would solve your troubles. It's hard letting stuff go for less than you know it's worth just because you need money NOW.
I wish I could offer some encouragement for advice, but I'm sure you're already doing everything you can. I've been there though, at one point I had sold every piece of gear that I could other than the poopie that was so cheap that it didn't matter if I sold it or kept it. Then a bunch of that stuff got stolen.
Anyway, hang in there.
Thanks Aron. Yeah, I'm down to the stuff that's so cheap it would be stupid to sell it and the custom pieces. I don't want to sell my custom bass, but it's the next on the chopping block eventually. Right now I'm down to the point where I need to fundraise to buy a belt and new shoes, which is pretty bad, but that's because I only count having money after I pay all my bills and keep a minimum amount of emergency savings. I won't go into debt or default on anything, at least my credit score is still somewhat decent for the future at this point. I really have sold off pretty much all my cool gear except a few things. I managed to hold onto my best bass gear, by selling off pretty much every piece of good guitar gear I owned that was worth anything. So I still have Mr Grumpy, my GK MB800, Ampeg 810e and Faital Dually, Carvin PB4 in B, Drake Custom 4 string and my DIY pine Pbass in standard and my core Dunwich pedals and the cheapies (Boss ODB-3 and Joyo UD). Not sure how much longer I can hold onto all of that, but hopefully my wife is going to be doing more part time work soon. Every spare penny this year has gone to paying back our savings, paying off credit cards and medical bills and then saving to take the family on a vacation next month. So it might get a little better in the fall, we'll see. Can't say about all the band and recording stuff, that's just dead in the water for a while now and I'm running on fumes when it comes to motivation at this point.
Feel your pain man. Same crap I went through in 2014 after the divorce and tax bill came in. Wasn't near as bad this year but it will turn around eventually. My supporting membership expired, because I don't have the extra $30 to renew it. Bummer Corey...ill buy Mr. Grumpy if it comes to that, hate to see him go into the wrong hands.
The Flying V kit came in today!!! Gutted the ol Hondo ric and enlarged the bridge pup route on the V to fit the ric pup and mocked them up. Enough for today, sanding begins on sunday.
This thing is gonna be real cool if i take my time and do everything right. The kit comes with black hardware, which I think I may keep, bridge seems cheapish but solid, and same with tuning pegs. But it think mixing the chrome and black may look pretty cool. Planning on a small black simgle ply pickgaurd, more like pup ring, for the neck pup.
Thinking a really dark stain with a matching headstock but a unfinished neck besides that.

Anyone ever gotten the opportunity to actually hear one of these things? I'm tempted even though itd be a hell of a trip to go get them.
If you lived closer I'd be down to have you record our next EP when we go in to record in August/september. I may still contact you for mixing/mastering when we get to it.
That's a pretty decent deal. I wonder how easy/difficult it would be to put an ICE power module in one of those heads. Yeah, you could run the preamp into a power amp but having an 800W Beta Bass all in one head would be pretty sweet.
The only downside to that, and it's honestly not that bad, is that the power amp in those heads has dirt to it as well. If you want the sound of that amp cranked up all the way, not sure you could get it running the preamp into a separate high headroom power amp, but it would probably still have plenty of dirt and sound good.
