What kind of pre-amp pedal do you guys recommend? I'm looking for something that would add some nice overdrive very smoothly. (FYI, Verellen Meatsmoke is too expensive for me.)

Naw I'm playing through Peavey Classic 400. Tbh, overdrive section of CL400 sounds mediocre, so I wanted some thing that I can use instead of pre-amp section of CL400. Someone in the Peavey Cult gave very good analogy. It's like you have a very bland milkshake but it's 4 liter milkshake.
I have Iron Fist Fuzz made by Lone Wolf Audio but sometimes the fuzz is too much
For OD I always say Pork Loin. Modded if possible. There are plenty of options, however. I also like the Joyo Ultimate Drive for dirt cheap drive.
Tube Works Blue Tube does some nice light drive... not as easy to find as perhaps the Pork Loin or the Joyo kleinenenten mentioned, but worth a look if you can find one. Thing I don't love about it is the Fender tone stack EQ. You can set if flat and not have it affect your tone. But it just isn't a very useful feature for me because the mids are cut only. If you don't have to rely on that EQ, it can be a non-issue in a smooth sounding drive pedal though.

I recommend an amp that overdrives nicely.
Maybe get an amp that you like the sound of better?
i still use my dark driving pedal to darken the od with the LB100 to get it to sound more like the L2000

Just wanted to second the Pork Loin recommendation. It's a great affordable pedal with tons of good tones inside.
Haven't tried the Joyo but now I am curious...
for a little drive and preamp i recommend the Aguilar tone hammer DI. it can give you some dirt but it also sounds good clean with other dirt in front. the EQ is really good on the TH
I figured it out guys. My friend has Joyo Roll Boost which is a clean boost pedal, and I put my amp in crunch mode and figured the tone out. Thx for the help though
I believe there's one in the classifieds as we speak. I thought of picking it up, but have no real need for it.
Just got the news from my mechanic: transmission is on its way out on the Audi. Guess I'm car-hunting again.
It was pretty disheartening scrolling through one page that was just photos of the then-missing, mentally going "seen this person at hella shows" far, far too often. So many familiar faces that I will never see again.
Blending the channels, and really messing with the EQ helps a lot. As in I use the crunch channel for all mids, and use the clean to round stuff out. Makes either useless on their own, but I have found the amp to be a lot more expressive than I initially thought.
Pork Loin, Aguilar TH, JGR 1u rock pre are what I use.
Regular TB thinks that low B strings are some special magical thing that you need special cabs like Acme for. They also seem to think that you can only have a low B on a 5-string.
Anyone fancy themselves a cabinet designer? I'm trying to come up with plans/design a 4x15 fridge cabinet similar to Al's greens from sleep. Except i want it to be deeper, use 3015s and maybe a shelf port? Not sure if it would be better to do tube or shelf porting. Trying to either come up with designs or just a good repository of information for me to read so I can figure out how to design my own. Also I know its stupid and totally inefficient, but more is more. I want a wall of speaker behind me.
Could probably fit it into fridge size better if you do tube ports.
Why do you want it to be deeper?
Because those green cabinets are notorious for lacking bass response, its all mid, which I guess is probably partially speaker choice and partially cabinet design issues. I want to jiggle peoples eyeballs with this thing. Also because I assume they wouldnt have enough volume for 3015s. If they would fit into that depth then I wouldnt care if it were deeper.
Edit: Maybe I should say that from what I've heard they lack low bass response compared to other cabinets. Maybe notorious is implying to much.
