Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Jason even called me to change my order when I went singles. He asked what I'm trying to accomplish and we changed my order.
Now it's only 5 string sets ordered and a bunch of spare G strings.

Have a GK400RB back in the stable. Perfect for the E140 JBL 215 and can push it to 11 without clipping the speakers.
This is the 4th one I've bought and hope to not let it go. Just feels like home base to me.
All my other amp rigs are just too much for this cab at full bore.
Funny now cause the price is just the same acrost the board for these. It's like a solid investment that will not depreciate any more.

Not sure if I should get an EHX Memory Toy, or an MXR Carbon Copy, or just save up and get a combined Anomalies and Afterlife pedal from Fuzzrocious.

You should get an Echo-Puss! I A/B'ed mine against my buddy's Carbon Copy, and I much preferred the Echo-Puss. Just more flexible to me. My two cents, at least.

Edit: Just looked. Too big a box, and way too many controls. Including a tone knob. Instant dealbreaker on a delay, for me.

Dealmaker here. I can do crisp clean delay, or lo-if. Either way, whatever works for you.

As a general rule, I hate "tone" or "EQ" knobs on most effects. Cause most of the time I'm trying to set it to sound like it isn't there at all.

That's why I ditched my Digiverb for an EHX Holy Grail Nano. One knob, one switch, instead of four knobs. What I like about the Memory Toy or Carbon Copy is that they have very simple controls.

Try the more basic Aqua-Puss? It's a simpler delay, but still gets great praise. 300ms I believe, which could be too short. Also supposedly based on the DM-2. Never used the Aqua-Puss myself, but would give it a shot if I found one cheap enough. But with no real need, that's gotta be pretty cheap.

Another option is the old DOD FX90. Simple controls, great sound. Just mix, regen, and delay. Probably my 2nd favorite delay thus far. They can still be had relatively cheaply if you snag it in time. I got one for $20 a few months ago, but $50-$75 seems to be the going rate many times.

Edit: This FX90 even has the adapter included to save a few bucks.

Those older ibanez delays (ad-9, adl) sound very good on bass. Last time i checked the vintage ad-9s were a bit pricy but the adl which is essentially the same just different housing can be got cheap. Would be worth trying the reissues too (ibanez and maxon) but i have no direct experience.

Just two knobs, self oscillates easily, modulation under second switch is useless, but it has something in its sound that makes me keep it and go back to it despite still finding zero use for delay in my playing.

Carbon Copy gets my vote every time if you want a simple, powerful, toneful delay that's "just" a delay.

I'd go carbon copy or the malekko ekko 616 mk2 dark if I wanted a simpler delay....Personally I'm becoming a gigantic fan of earthquake but they don't really have a simple controls delay. Their pedalsa re incredible though.

OCD is a low end sucker from my understanding. For me it's the John K Gamma Drive. Some like the DOD 250 or 350, these may need to be modded to retain low end. Check out Dunwich ODB, see if that is something you may like. There are some available right now.

Echo and speed. It's in 1590BB enclosure. Not small, really. And it's horizontal instead of vertical, which is the biggest drawback for me as I usually have a lot of pedals on my pedalboard. But it glows in the dark!

I got about 150$ to spend. I'm talking an always on pedal here. My ultimate drive pedal sounds great on my fender combo amp, not so much what I want thru the svt.
