Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Hey guys. Been stalking you all here for years but never really have anything to contribute.
But I finally have my amp that a friend built me.
Hand built 200 watt svt clone. Only took about 6 years....... Life has a tendancy to get in the way of things.
Sitting on top of a 1 x 12 & 1 x 15.
This thing is loud as hell for 200 watts.

Edit : yeah I really need better pics.

From right to left theres a 70's fernandes pbass.

Middle one I built based on an Ibanez roadster shape. 35" Neck through with mahogany core and spalted maple facings, audere preamp with impedance loading and pickups I wound myself.

The purple/black beast is an '82 Ibanez roadster. I love that thing. It just always gets the job done.

The unfinished one is one I'm working on (obviously) and is based on a Wal shape. Ash core w/ sapelle facings, mahogany/walnut set neck and maple board. I decided to build it because I had a spare set of active emj pups.
Hoping to get that finished in the next month, but thats weather dependant as I'm spraying and its a bit wet here at the moment.

Also added amp guts photo. Just 'cause.

I just love building things. It makes me happy.

Extremely nice builds. My first instincts were close... Big Ibby fan here. Was about to say nice roadstar but the clone threw me as I know there was never a burl offered that early. Really looking forward to seeing your Wal build more. Choice of woods are stellar.

As for the amp is it KT88 based?

Just got a free Bass Cry Baby, the white one, and a Boss ODB-3 from a buddy. Haven't plugged them in yet, but I'm listening to ODB-3 samples on the youtubez. If I keep it I might need to mod it, sounds like it's pretty fizzy/noisy stock.....any mods better than others? Looking at Monte and Modest Mike, Wampler, yadda.

It's great modded or stock. That pedal just takes some strange settings and fine tuning to make it sound good.

What are some good settings?
Never been happy with mine but haven't spent to much time with it.
I'll mess with mine tonight and see if I can refigure it out. I have one stock and on end that I fubared a mod with. It still works and sounds good but I killed a little bit of magic with my mods, did a jacked up drill job trying to squeeze in a switch and messed up the indicator, hahaha. I plan to get a third someday. I have a goal to clone that box, add a mid knob and make it not so dependent on specific settings.

Wicked cool dude!! Wish I had an amp with half the badassness of the amp you made! Really dig the basses too.

Never used the odb3 much, but I like the uniqueness of it's sound. Is the cry baby you got the one that turns on as soon as you start moving the treadle? I have one of the early foot switchable ones. I've yet to find one of the newer ones I like, but mine has bad volume drop. I just love using cocker wah tones though and the great frequency sweep.

Anyone ever bought used from Music Go Round over the intertubes? There's a used bass that I've been eyeing, but I got burned once buying used from GC.

Call them up for an in-hand description. I usually don't do that but if you're generally suspicious it couldn't hurt. I've bought a few things from Geetaur Centre with about an 80% success rate. Does MGR have a return policy like GC? I had a messed up cab show up, and all I had to do was take it to my local GC for them to deal with and refund me. I also just got a cheap SVT from them kinda knowing it was gonna need work....after fixing it for $85 it still ended up being a good deal.

On the ODB-3 front I had a chance to mess around w/ it this morning, side by side with my Blower Box for comparison. I was expecting much worse, it sounds decent enough stock so modding might not be necessary. The BB has more mids and sounds bigger/ more massive to me....the ODB can do a harsher scooped mids sounding dist/fizzle. It was easy enough to find a simple dirt/OD setting that got pretty close to the BB.

If I remember correctly MGR gave me 10 days to contact the store I bought it from if it didn't work properly. I called the store and the guy said the tubes were new and took it to a tech and indeed they were.

Anyway, has anybody played the Idiotbox Dungeon Master ? The MrExcane vid makes me wanna it
