Being sick on Xmas vacay sucks big wang dang doodle. Band kinda woke up for 5 minutes just before the holidays, seems like it's back in coma-ville. I might audition for a drummer slot on some dark/gothic waver band, for kicks. Mmmm Nyquil.

Yeah, but I’m crazy and want total silence. I put it in the loop to mute the pre amp noise and everything, so all you can hear is faint speaker hiss, if you really listen.

Your option is fine, as long as you’re not an OCD son of a gun like me. Wish little things didn’t bug me, I’d have lots more time AND money!

Ironically, that has the depth at the lowest setting, letting through the least bass. If I remember correctly, though, JohnK said the sweep only reduces by 3.5% stock. The aforementioned mod makes that more useful, and apparently makes the knob sweep something crazy like 3000%. I may be off on that last one, though. I know it’s a cap swap or two, and supposedly simple if you can remove tiny components.

Most of the time my drive is from the amp. If my effects are on, then I want noise, as that's what they're mostly for.

lots of cheap phasers and/tremolos around. i find tremolos really good on bass, one that can use an exp pedal to control the rate i think could be a nice change for you

Got some christmas funds.

Ordered a couple of the DOD Boneshaker pedals on sale through Harman. One just showed up today. Pleasingly, all the controls were set to fully counter-clockwise out of the box. This makes my mild OCD tendencies happy.

Got some headphones, and a new, smaller pedalboard for the folk rock band.

Thinking about picking up a "The Wash" pedal from Hungry Robot. Looks like it's delay and reverb in one pedal. Which I've been after for a while.

Killer steal on the boneshaker, I've been debating on getting one since they came out, that and their bifet boost.

If you're looking for reverb + delay in one check this one out. Sounds fantastic and the momentary oscillating ramp up is slick.

Any strong opinions here on the DOD FX90 or the Carbon Copy? Looking for an analog delay for another board, mostly for tight solo-y stuff. Not long delays. I know I chose the Echo Puss over the CC for my main boards, but don’t have CC to A/B with my FX90.

Kind of like Mpdd said. I prefer the carbon copies repeat degradation a little better. Its a little less gritty but its not pristine like digital delays are. IMO

Those of you that play originals, what string gauge and tuning do you use? Since I'm new to the bass, I'm still playing 105-50 strings in E-A-D-G. I may have the opportunity to join an originals band that's billed as stoner/doom/psychedelic here soon. I'm not going to get a setup, file the nut, etc. until I know that I'm in and what the music calls for, I was just curious what others are doing.

I don't worry about gauges too much. I have different ones but probably most are 45/50 - 105.
We are usually tuned down a half step but sometimes a whole step, doesn't really matter.
If I were playing covers I wouldn't change strings, might not even change my tuning depending on the band.

I use 130, 100, 80, 60, tuned in BEAD.

I wouldn't worry about filing the nut. They're replaceable.

Finally replaced the tuners on my Peavey.

i like low tension so for 1/2 step down i use 100-45 for C# standard i use 110-50

I've been fcking around with low tunings/string tension for a while. 105 or 110 seems OK for going down as low as C. String through bridges/bodies work better obviously. Anything thicker feels like B string territory, which I'd rather avoid.

I've been trying out DR strings with hex cores lately, don't know how I feel about them yet. Experimentation is key, find what works best for you on your particular bass.

I think I have 125 - 60 on one of my basses I currently use the most. Its nice to have more than one bass that you can try variations of gauges on without having to be messing around with the go to bass. Problem is Ive got 4 basses and I cant remember what two of them are strung with. Should probably be writing this stuff down or investing in a gauge reader. PfffffTttt!..............yeah.......... (disappears into smoke)
