Lol. Craziest thing is, when I saw them in Detroit, their sound was really balanced and not earth-shatteringly loud. But yeah, with that many speakers the sound was very thick.

Same in tulsa. Though it did make me smile when Al started playing and the crowd lost their mind. Thats the kind of reaction i wish every bass player got!

I saw them in Austin and yeah, same. Balanced and just loud enough to feel it in my chest but not go deaf. Walls of amps used just right imo

That's what I like to hear. Catching them in Denver next month, and I've been dealing with some recent tinnitus and a bit of volume loss in one ear. I'll definitely wear plugs regardless, but I'm happy to know they won't be a moot point. Likewise, the down-tuning will ensure that I'm not hearing glass-shattering highs...

Down here there are some sound guys that assume every “heavy” band wants to sound like pantera.

Saw Sleep last night in London. First time seeing them and basically has brought forward my need to get a Rickenbacker. Al's Tone was amazing and the band sounded great to my ears.

That's been my experience seeing them in SF, Oakland, LV.

If you buy used and are okay with an S model, they're not that expensive.

Anyone tried the traynor yba 200? Pretty mixed reviews on TB (surprise) but the general consensus is that it breaks up early. IDK I played an SVTCL for a year and would of loved for it to do that without having to push it to overpowering volume. There’s one on “great” condition used on GC site. Less than 500$

I've tested one out at a local shop. Would have bought it, but didn't have the cash on hand. It was gone the next day. It was at motor City guitars. My cousin has one of their guitar amps and it sounds outstanding. Highly underrated IMO.

Nice! I've been debating on that or or jetglo one. Still got a ways to go in the cash department, but I'll get one eventually. I'm really torn on the walnut ones. I love the look, but I'm not a big fan of maple fretboards. And they cost quite a bit more.

On a side note, I've always been bummed that the s version doesn't have the option for stereo.

it's ok but it tends to be a bit bright. really compresses when overdriven. even when set clean and at the same volume as say an SVT, the YBA200 just sounds "weaker". there is no weight behind each note. sounds like a toy amp is my best description. i owned a yba200 for a year.

If you were the bass player in a coffee house band it would be a great amp but for what we do it just falls way short

That's good to know, I'd been thinking about picking one up since I liked it in the shop. My guess is it would help a Tbird or ebo cut through the the mix.

no it just lacks the authority to cut through a band mix.

In the same power range I thin the Peavey VB2 is an under appreciated gem. Picked one up last year pretty cheap, its a kick ass head, IMO.

That sucks, I loved the yba1 I had for a while, major balls for its size. Always a bummer when something that sounds great alone can't cut it.

I use one as a backup and for band practice. Good amp for a cheap price. But yes, it's not terribly authoritative or loud.

the YBA200 and YBA300 are nothing like the old YBA1/1A and YBA3/3A. My YBA3 punched much harder than the YBA200

That white prodigy in the classifieds keeps talking to me. It's almost exactly the right size for the top of the horn I'm building.
