Nope, is that a hybrid - tube pre? Probably sounds good. I've been mostly playing a Trace Elliot V-type hybrid and I'm pretty happy with it how it sounds.

It's full tube all though lightweight (30lbs). Don't know what's all different from classic designs.

Looking for a cabsim. I want to run my GK’s DI into a cabsim, then into my mixer/PA, into a headphone amp for quiet practice. The guitars already have a similar setup, so I’m looking to have one for bass. Ideally, it would both accept and send XLR, though I could do with accepting either and sending either, as I have an adapter and the mixer will take XLR or 1/4 inputs.

they use toroidal transformers which are much lighter than a "traditional" transformer. the transformers are where most of the weight comes from. the YBA200 and YBA300 also use them to save weight. they don't sound the same to me and i think that's why these lighter weight tube amps sound kind of wimpy.

I play the strategy and the other one from time to time at Huber Breese. They sound good, easy to get a good tone. That said I haven't cranked it, and the v4b they have there seems to sound pretty good no matter what it's set at.

Thanks. A little pricier than I would have hoped, but certainly seems like it can work in a multitude of situations. One thing, however. It doesn’t show it accepting a DI from an amp, just the preamp out or FX send. So would I need to put this in my FX loop, or could it just be fed by my GK’s DI? The DI option would be simpler, as my board (which has pedals in the fx loop) is pretty full.

You should be fine running the GK's DI to the OCSD. Someone asked about that in the OCSD thread, and the builder said it's capable of handling that +4 dBu without clipping. You may have to then roll back the output volume knob on the OCSD...
I have. The Strategy is way better with overdrive than the Prodigy, as it's not as bright. More aggressive sounding and less "hifi" sounding, which is a bit counterintuitive.
They actually don't use toroidal transformers, surprisingly. Part of the weight savings are from being essentially an aluminum shell instead of a wooden head cab, part is different transformer materials, apparently.
Thanks again. One more question - I assume the headphone out put has the cabsim applied to it? Part of my plan would be to run this into a mixer to have “quiet” aka headphone jams with numerous people. I know it can do that. But if I can just have this plugged in for my own solo quiet practice, that would also be great.
Short answer - yes. All six knobs on the face of the box are to dial in cabsim and a final volume boost/cut as needed. That's all engaged with the footswitch. So you can run the headphone out with or without the cabsim engaged. And the the aux in is great for silent practice to recorded tracks.
You could also run your bass to the OCSD input and then run the output to the "silent" mixer that the band is plugged into. Then you can run the full band mix from the mixer output to the 1/8" aux in on the OCSD.
In that scenario, you'd be able to run your bass through the cabsim and have the final mix come through however the mixer is mixed, since the aux in is unaffected by the cabsim. It may be easier to just run your headphones straight from the mixer, but this gives you options if you don't have enough headphone outs for everyone via the mixer.

Plenty of options. Dang. I want to keep my GK’s tone, so I just want the cabsim part really. So I would not go from bass/board direct to the OCSD. This thing is much more than I’d likely ever use. I think I might like something simpler to be honest. Also, cheaper. Though this thing looks pretty awesome. One day, perhaps...
They aren't the cheapest on the market, but I'm not sure of any other analog ones in that range that you give as much control. On the other hand, you can program multiple settings with some of the digital cabsims.
I snagged the OCSD because I wanted the cabsim for recording and to give me another tonal option through my full rig. The headphone out/aux in was a bonus that allowed me to sell the 3leaf box I was using for silent practice & travel.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in no way suggesting that it’s not worth the money. But in my head, I had something similar to my guitar headphone setup - preamp send to DI with cabsim, DI to mixer, to headphone amp. I don’t need tons of cab options, just something close enough for headphones. Straightforward DI/cabsim is my hope.

I know the feeling. Just gotta make some minor adjustments/mods. However I'm not picky and I'm satisfied with my rig's current state.
I think if I get the pickups swapped to DiMarzio model Js, I'll actually get to my happy place sonically.
