Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I've seen the same, at least the few times I browse I find em range from 1100 for fair to 1400 for mint. Of course my luck, walnut ones are more and those are the ones that really speak to me...

Very similar than the gibson thunderbird i played. Harder to compare as the sandberg is active, so theres a preamp in the mix. I liked the feel and playability of the sandberg a bit more. The control layout, IIRC, was 1 vol, a pickup pan knob, and treble and bass active cut/boosts. Usually not a fan of new 'roadworn' aesthetics, but it was understated. Really felt like playing a vintage, well loved instrument.

That was my hesitation with both the Flea and JMJ. But I don't mind the looks too much of either. I will say the necks on both of em are so nice and smooth. I also like the tone knob for each pup on the flea.

Thanks man, gig went well. Sound guy did DI only didn’t mic my cab as well. He was not a fan of the grindy fuzz. Kept effin with my tone the whole time

I will hopefully start gigging with my post/stoner band soon, and the idea of sound guys messing with my tone gives me anxiety. Luckly my ABM has a post DI output, yet I'd prefer my cabs to me mic'd.

Not too doomy, but i had to put a little bit of tube compression, subtle pitch correction, and vocal enhancement on the 17 track hummingbird noise track i made this weekend. The highs were so icy and piercing that it sounded more brutal than feedback. The track plays once regular and then repeats backwards with inversion. I may use the non compressed/corrected version for a backing track when we play so it cuts through, but to just have that playing in the gallery would be borderline torture. We may have a drummer and an organ player sit in with the drone band at the show, I had to warn them that we have been less doomy and psych as of late due to listening to stevie ray and lynyrd skynyrd ten hours a day everyday at the wood shop. In fact it's starting to sound like a soundtrack project where JAMC and alice in chains go off the rails. I didn't put this post on the fb page, because I seem to be only posting p basses for sale there. Anyway, have a great Memorial day, be easy.

Down here there are some sound guys that assume every “heavy” band wants to sound like pantera.

Saw Sleep last night in London. First time seeing them and basically has brought forward my need to get a Rickenbacker. Al's Tone was amazing and the band sounded great to my ears.

Lol. Craziest thing is, when I saw them in Detroit, their sound was really balanced and not earth-shatteringly loud. But yeah, with that many speakers the sound was very thick.

I saw them in Austin and yeah, same. Balanced and just loud enough to feel it in my chest but not go deaf. Walls of amps used just right imo
