Also, even from the balcony (especially from the balcony?) the weed smoke was overpowering. I was craving an omelet for most of Sleep's set. Also, hi. I've been avoiding TB the last few months because I couldn't really take some the regular idiocy of the main forums. You folks are cool though... and I can't. resist. browsing. the. classifieds.

Speaking of classifieds, I popped my talkbass classifieds cherry this week and got an insanely great sounding fuzz.
Played this last night on the rb800 and it sounded awesome. Gonna jam with it on the SVT this weekend. Old Growth Fuzz

It can be a challenge sometimes.
I was recently chewed out for suggesting that if you post something that deviates from what I call TB Orthodox Doctrine (A Fender P is the only bass anyone ever needs, 4 strings is all you need, cheap basses are just as good as expensive basses, any music written after 1979 is garbage, Hawaiian shirts are acceptable attire, etc) you will get chewed out. It was one of the more ironic arguments I've ever had.

So there's a superset of shirts that includes Hawaiian shirt that I call "IDGAF retired" shirts.
These include "Hawaiian" shirts but also "fishermann" shirts, "I wore something like this for 30 years at work" shirts and "it's got buttons and a collar so STFU" shirts.

Well I wore a "it's got buttons and a collar so STFU" shirt today. So I suppose I can't bitch either.

Accepted TB rhetoric gets old but I find when dealing with the mods it's how you say things not what you say. I try hard to disagree at every opportunity where it's truthful on this website. Maybe it doesn't get a lot of likes but at least some reader sometime will see it and realize they aren't wrong, just different. My POV when I post is as positive as possible with as little argument as possible while still getting the message across.

"Loud is fine, just wear hearing protection."

"I don't like Fender necks, but don't want a preamp either."

You know I voice unpopular opinion in a way that doesn't say they popular opinion is wrong.

Maybe I am making it easy to argue against me but I'm not rolling over and agreeing either.

This is a weird forum when it comes to free speech but I don't want future bassists to accept all the garbage spewed here. So I drop a dissenting opinion as often as possible.

I know I'm not going to change the world or anything, but living too comfortably in your own bubble isn't good for anyone. When someone tells me "this is how it is" and I know its not because I'm out there doing it too, it gets old.
The thing that really chaps my hide is that as a metal fan and musician, I'm constantly being marginalized. As a bass player, even more so. The world isn't made for me, I've accepted that. I don't get all bent out of shape when someone says the music I like isn't popular, the clubs I can play are limited because of it, and its generally a terrible financial move. Yet some how I'm the whiner when I tell someone "Hey, if you want to engage the audience maybe play something written this century. Did you want to hear Perry Como when you were growing up? No? Because that's what Brown Eyed Girl is to me, and I'm not very young."
I've never openly say "Boomers, retire already and let someone else have a shot." I want to, but I don't.

That first bit is something that grinds my gears as well. Nothing worse than blind acceptance. I'm glad that most all modern pop, country, and mainstream rock/hard rock/metal (FFDP, Papa Roach, etc.) is the only music I can't stand.

That's my approach as well. Seems to have kept me out of trouble so far.

More on topic: I finally got a chance to try my test bass in a mix. It has a Chinese chrome Tbird neck pup and it's thick and growly as hell! I had to turn the bass on my amp almost all the way down! Somehow though, it's much more articulate than a mudbucker. It sits right about where a Ric neck pup does.

Love the bit about the Hawaiian shirts. I saw Dean Delray doing comedy (some of you might know him from his podcast Let There Be Talk - gets lots of cool musician guests) and he did a great bit about Tommy Bahama shirts because this guy in the front row was wearing one. Too funny.
