Weird is cool.

I never said it wasn't. I own a G-3 and an RD.

I don't own any Fenders right now, except for a MIM J-bass neck that I haven't decided if I'll build something with it or not. The first basses I learned on were basically P-basses (a Lotus and later a MIK Squier P), so that design always sounds good & feels right to me, and it's all I really need, except maybe for recording....to be honest, I like having a little variety. I have a 70's Ibanez P-bass copy in ash that has G&L MFD's in it, which is the best 'P' I've owned. The Acoustic Black Widow I have is basically a P-bass. All the others are a mish mash of Gibson/Fender/whatever designs, and when it comes down to it, they all sound like a bass....what's my point? Well, I could sell them all and do just fine with one, but I live in America y'know.

On the bass front, I have always been more into the classic style basses such as Fender. I thought my Carvin SB was wild looking, when I first got it. But the schecter on order is going to be something so totally different than anything I’ve owned before. To the point where it still feels weird to say out loud... “I’m getting a Schecter Stiletto”...weird.

Speaking of my order, I had forwarded the order confirmation I received from GC and sent it to AMS for their price match offer as well as filled out the form on their site. First email in response to online form said nope, not happening. Then, a rep replied to the GC email I forwarded saying, looks like we can match, please fill out form for price match on AMS website. So I replied that I already filled the online form and was told it cannot be matched. Received a reply email saying it was a mistake and to please fill it out again. After filling it out again, I get the same reply. I wish AMS would stop dicking around and either match me or not. Don’t got time to fill out the same poopie only to get the same result.

flats maybe, but in all seriousness a P bass with an SVT and ampeg 810 played with a pick is pretty much perfection for me. if i could only play with a pick i would have been set long ago.

the sonic blue one recently got a makeover and a new David Allen pickup.

Ps are ubiquitous. Not my cup of tea, but they were work for many. My biggest complaint is how I comfy they are. Much prefer my Ibanez for that reason alone. But as always, use what you like!

flats maybe, but in all seriousness a P bass with an SVT and ampeg 810 played with a pick is pretty much perfection for me. if i could only play with a pick i would have been set long ago.

The tone of a split single coil, an OCD circuit, and a pick is pretty incredible. I love what Bison did with that on You Are Not the Ocean. Even finger, you and Spaceslug make it work great.
My problem with it is these old cranks that think a Fender P is all anyone needs. It does one or two things well, but it has its limits. Every bass does. You can't do Cannibal Corpse, Obsura, Rivers of Nihil, Soften the Glare, Black Crown Initiate, etc with a Fender P. I mean you could, but it would not be good.
I think where you and I are furthest apart is looks. I am just so burned out on the same old finishes with jarring white or tort PGs. Pastel colors? No! I see so many people post their "beautiful" basses, and all I can hear in my head is Madeline Kahn saying "how ordinary." I don't know if it is from familiarity breeding contempt, or just my general despising of the aesthetics of the 70s. I like modern; I like new. Sue me.

I often view Ps as simply adequate. They get the job done. Nothing fancy, no bells and whistles. Nothing that really stands out (to me at least). Nothing wrong with any of that. I just prefer something a bit more versatile and different.

I liken basses to traditional tools. I get basic, generic tools that get get the job done with minimum fuss. Other people get high end, top-of-the-line tools with all sorts of options. Both get the job done. I don’t really care about what’s in other people’s tool chests (unless I need to know a specific tool to use), and I don’t really care which bass people use. If it works for you, it works, and that’s all that matters.

I love my p. It just works for me personally. Sounded killer at practice last night. My only complaint is that mine has a little neck dive and I don’t like the ergonomics of the pickup. My stingray 5 was my number one since 2001 and it is still a headache getting used to playing on a 4 with wide string spacing. Part of me wants to find a passive 5 with a neck like the stingray.

I played a 4 and it was so killer. Light as hell. Massive sound. Total work of art. I think I would love a special 5 with two pickups but don’t know how I would ever afford one...

I had a guy do that to an expensive filter I bought. He just slapped the address sticker on the pedal box - no plastic, no padding, etc. I even messaged after I sent payment and asked him to waterproof it and add some padding because we were getting lots of rain. His response was, “bro, you freak out too much.”

“Hey bro, it’s a circuit board, bro.”

Once I got a pedal shipped in an envelope. No box.

I actually prefer this if you’re talking a bubble wrapped pedal inside a padded envelope. It feels way more secure if it’s done right.

I went into Chuck Levins to just test one out . They had a natural 4HH that's probably a touch over 8lbs. It was beautiful. I plugged it in and an hour an half later I still hadn't put it down! I NEVER do that in a store. I couldn't afford it either, but I bought it. I immediately put one of my Warwicks, a half dozen pedals and some tattoo machines up for sale. I love it so much I'm considering selling my early 90s Ray that I made my wife promise she would keep for my son if I died! Lol
