Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I picked one of these up on the cheap via Amazon ($25). It is a RAT clone with vintage/turbo modes. I never had a RAT based pedal before, being primarily a muff fan. I wanted to try out the RAT flavor without dropping much $.

But I'm digging this little guy. Turbo mode, with the filter at about 9-10 o'clock, the gain about 1-2, it doesn't suck out much low end. Sounds pretty dark, but I really like the smooth and huge sustain it gets when fed by my Pork Loin.

Of course, this means I'm going to start perusing RAT based pedals. . .

I have 2. Fantastic on my guitar boards! I still recommend the Arion Metal Master over it for bass, though.

I used to have a little eno Rat type pedal. I regret getting rid of it. It was a dastardly sound with my old P

Been waiting to post this in case I’d jinx myself...

I think my hum is solved, and I’m an idiot. It would seem that the power strip cord occasionally got entwined with the XLR out on my DI, and well, hum ensued. Been making sure that wasn’t happening the last few days and my hum hasn’t returned. So, yeah, I’m an idiot, but at least I don’t have to splurge for an isolated power supply.

Good to know I've been tempted to try one of those. I've only fooled around with a rat on guitar years ago.

yeah, not a fan of that thing at all. I like the simplicity, and materials, but the end product just looks like a child made it.

I agree, it looks like one of those things where someone's kid drew a bass and then someone made a bass using that drawing as the specs

I have a lot of Stingrays, and I do dig passive basses.

Why not just open up any MM and bypass the preamp wiring? Seems an odd choice though. The 3-band sounds pretty "passive" with EQ at the detents, roll off the mids to taste ... no obvious preamp exaggerated tones or zing, IMO. The Bass eq could come in really handy for groove/stoner/doom though, so too perhaps rolling off the Mids.

The current & recent Gibsons - EB and Thunderbirds - with the same humbucker pickups with large pole pieces might do it for those who want something like a passive Stingray. Cooler look for doom/stoner too.

Anybody have any input on one of those tiny (Mooer-sized) octave Pedals? Any of them cheap and good? I like my MXR BOD and DOD Octoplus, but am running out of room on my board, so a tiny octave would be perfect.
