Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Got this on a steal, tempted to send back. It was only shipped in its box thrown in one of those plastic shipping sleeves...box was beat to hell. Definitely just tossed on my porch too. You can tell the middle stacked pots took a beating.

Funny how I jumped on it when I saw that the guy had a ton of good feedback...ships on time but half asses the packaging?
If you go to get rid of it, hit me up. Ive been intriqued by those.

New dunable JM2. Just saw it on their site. drooldrooldrool

@br1qbat that looks sweet. The grain just pops and the binding is a nice touch.

Once I got a pedal shipped in an envelope. No box. :atoz:

That's brutal, this is one step up. This is how it came, one of those paper/plastic lined bags no padding. The box had imprints from the stacked knobs pressing on the lid...most pedal boxes are a bit thick, but the DOD ones are thin paperboard.

Luckily it works and with the few minutes I've had to mess with it, I like it a lot. Very useful tones and a lot of capability from it. I'm curious what the footswitch plug in can do. I would have loved expression out, but I doubt I'd use that in a song.

And yeah you guys would definitely get first crack at it if I end up flipping it.

can you tell me what the level does? is it an actual master volume or is it a blend between the dry and delay? been trying to figure that out before pulling the trigger on one.

I haven't had more than a few minutes this morning and I didn't mess with the level much. The little I did gave me the impression that it's the wet only volume. It didn't seem to mess with dry at all. I'll spend some time on it when I'm free tonight.

Phenomenal delay though. Can be bright or dark, rhythmic or ambient and I quickly got some good slap back sounds unintentionally. The rubberneck feature was cool, something I didn't think I'd use before I tried it, but definitely something I could incorporate now.

Maybe I'm the only one that's never heard, or heard of, this pedal, but in case some of you haven't heard it maybe you'll be glad you did.
Yes you will
I've been singing the praises of that pedal for over a year. That VariAC control provides a range of sounds that no other pedal provides (without a set of batteries that you have carefully measured the charge level and output of and constantly maintain :roflmao:)
For anyone that likes dark tones, low or high gain, this pedal delivers in a way that few can. AND it works equally well for guitar and bass :bassist:

wet as in just the repeats? that's too bad, i need a delay that i can boost the overall output.

I'm using the Moog MF Delay and i like it but would love something with more features.

speaking of delay, I used it quite a bit on this jam we captured last week.

Sick! And yeah I think it just affected repeat level. I'll get back to you on it. Between the gain and level though I was able to have the repeats have higher output than the dry, especially when I engaged the feedback osc.

@Kriegs hahaha yup sure can be. I think the biggest benefit is if you're looking for just the right sound and you can just pull the right one off the shelf.

Does anyone have experience with the Line 6 HX? Thoughts? How are the distortions, they have always been the weakest part of Line 6? How's the Darkglass/Obsidian setting?

I've had a few of the M-series pedals and thought everything but the distortions were cool. I'd have kept using them if they had better buttons. (I got a cheap used M9 that I am replacing the buttons on now).

Check out the fairfield circuitry meet maude. I love mine. The little chorus/pitchshifter sounds amazing it has a feedback and a repeats so you can make it feedback two different ways. Super cool

I know the word 'digital' scares some people, but I wouldn't overlook the SA Nemesis Delay. You have insane control if you want to deep-dive, but there is plenty of control on the face of the pedal if you just want to manage it that way. You can easily set the overall volume on the pedal itself, or you can do custom volume adjustments for individual presets. It stores up to 8 presets without needing an additional footswitch, MIDI control, phone app, etc. The Analog, Tape, and Digital engines alone are enough for me, but I enjoy being able to get weird with some of the other engines (Helix, Sweeper, Shifter, etc.). I also have the EQD Avalanche Run, and I don't think I would miss it if I flipped it...

i don't mind digital. i have the cusak tap-a-delay and think it is great.

Yeah i run the meet maude for some lush analog delay with darkish repeats and also as kind of my noise generator. It doesnt have very long repeats but between the "tape warble" and everything else it has a ton of character. It also has a level knob with enough juice on tap to boost your signal. It has two options for oscilating either feed your signal into it and it repeat like a normal delqy, but then it has a tone knob that feeds the repeats into themselves letting you feed back only the repeats of the notes you play. I tried a bunch of analog delays before i finally settled on this one.

Then i use an eqd avalanche run for most of my real delay work. Its very clean and since i run a stereo rig it can feed both amps so you can get kind of a ping pong with it which i like. Plus being able to just tap out the tempo is really handy. It has lots of cool handy features which i like for doing sctual delay stuff. Whereas the meet maude is much more a character machine. I tend to run the meet maude before all my other modulation and then thr avalanche run after for the ambient noise.

So the level only affects the repeats, but you can boost the repeats volume well past unity to where it completely drowns out the dry signal.

All in all the pedal is pretty damn awesome. Not a do every single thing, but damn close. Can handle all your delay needs and gets clear, dark or even gritty and lo-fi. I think this is for those who want great sounding delay, but don't need every type of delay imaginable (nemesis).

I said earlier that I wish it had expression capabilities, but now I see why they opted for the footswitch jack instead. With the rubberneck feature you're basically using the footswitch as an expression: how you have it set and how long you hold it allows you to modulate the repeats. With the tap tempo switch you can adjust how quickly it goes into self oscillations and swells. A lot of the knobs are interactive.

This led to two awesome things I found about it. When holding the rubberneck switch (which basically changes the delay time to the preset on the rubberneck mini pot), you can use the tap switch to change the tempo creating all sorts of bleeps and freq sweeps. Blew my mind. You can also hold the tap and send it into osc. while it's adjusting delay time. Depending on which you hold down first you get some different sounds. This thing can create some wild textures that I've never heard before.

The second one came out of curiosity and I think is a real hidden gem. A slowed attack gritty fuzz! Reminded me of the fuzz from the Neve console on the Beatles revolution. I noticed the repeats get real fuzzy and turned the repeats and delay time all the way down and basically got a slow attack fuzz pedal. Just messed around with the level, gain and tone. This thing rips! It was a cool sound and I messed with it for some time.

I'll get a clip of it when I can because the delay time was so short it didn't really throw of playing at all.
