No backing out of singing now. Got the mic and wedge. Band split the powered mixer cost. The other 2 guys are getting their own wedges.
Argh, we've been trying to pick a name as well. I am super picky and going to be 'that guy' that shoots down 99% of suggestions. . .
Yeah we thought about it for a long time and eventually settled with Centaurus. At the time for whatever reason we didnt find the one in chicago. Now its too late because we got shirts n such. So we are going to keep rocking it till we have legal issues lol.

Of course the couple names I've liked have been met by a wall of 'meh'
Names are hard fosho. I've about given up on trying to come up with a name for my loosely tied together small projects and I'm just going with it until I come across something that sounds good.
I've been through this a few times, once dilberating for almost a year, and this system seems to work well, at least with a 4 piece. First you need reasonable people who can agree to something and live with the results. Next, make a master list of name ideas; we never really limit how many each person could contribute, but the idea is that only individual favs make the list. Then we went through the list and eliminated any name that was used, past or present, regardless of their history or accomplishments. Last step was to tell everyone to rank their top 3 from the master and at least one of those could not be one of their contributions. Whichever name made it on to the most ballots, wins. Even if its just two ballots and there is no other commonality. This could result in a tie, I suppose, but the ranking should eliminate most of that. In the few times I've done this we've always has a clear winner. One time, a guitarist through a fit because the result was a name that wasn't on his list and that he really disliked. I disliked it too, but I lived with it. He was a big baby, so we fired him.

I'd probably give in if the other 2 were deadset on a name I didnt love
our name is terrible. i don't know how we thought it was a good idea. however i feel it eventually takes on an identity of it's own. it's like people diassociate the original meaning from the band. don't over think it. it's not that important, as long as it's easy to find in a google search.
I agree about band names not meaning much once the band is established. If you spend enough thinking about a lot of metal or alt rock band names, they are kinda stupid. Partly because all the simple "good" names are taken, and partly because the original meaning is lost somewhere.
This might be why so many stoner\doom band names are so predictable. They don't matter in the long run, and they convey to the listener what genre the band is. Death metal band names and logos are often ridiculous, but they make the point.
That is really true. I always use Radiohead as the best example. Really stupid name when you think about it but no one thinks twice about it.
Taken from a Talking Heads song, actually. Not sure if that makes it more, less, or just-the-same stupid, but it is what it is.
