Learning the difference between in the mix tone, bedroom tone, and recording tone is something all bass players have to go through. Guitar sounds the same almost all the time, so it is something guitar players don't have to think about.
Drummers may be able to sympathize. Recorded drums sound nothing like live drums.
I feel like in a proper functioning band its the entire bands job to make adjustments. Since i moved to guitar from bass ive definately had to reduce the amount of bass i have in my eq with the band versus playing guitar alone. Otherwise it just turns into a honking wash of bass. And weve had to adjust bass to to get the band working together as a whole. Its definately not just the bassists job to make his tone fit around the guitars. Just most guitarists are all about their tone rather than the tone of the band
