Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

I’ve started playing in a traditional metal band that covers maiden,Priest, dio, etc. Their original material sounds like the last couple of Metal Church albums or even Maidens more recent offerings. They tune to C Standard and have a modern metal tone. I have a standard P bass and a Ibanez blazer bass that sounds like my p bass cuz it basically is. I’m looking to try an active 5 string and with family vacay coming up I can’t spend a lot of dough. Was wondering if anyone is playing a schecter or LTD active fiver? Also looking at Ibanez.
I played an Ibby sr650 yesterday and was blown away by it. The pickups are great, I'm not a fan of having a bunch of knobs on an instrument, but the playablity was off the charts. GC used for $399 I think. Heres the 5 string version, the sr655:

I played a Ibanez BTB for quite a few years. If you want to downtune and stuff they’re pretty awesome. 35” scale wide string spacing. I’ve looked at them on and off for a few years and thought of getting another. Really solid bass.

Apropos to this, I’m trying to teach five 11 year olds to play D&D by breaking out my 1986 version of the old TSR redbox set. Sadly, the Keep on the Borderlands doesn’t hold up like I hoped.

Just gut it and make it your own. I've been using KotB with beginning players/parties since it came out but have made it fit my world(s) sometimes even skipping the Caves of Chaos completely and using a different module dungeon or one of my own or even just a full on wilderness hex-crawl.

…..and now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I bought a Mesa M6 carbine last week at GC for 550$ I thought it was a decent price. I loved how clean it was when I played it in the store but this amp does not like my dirt pedals. Blower box was fizzy the old growth fuzz really sounded ban thru it too. I think I’m returning it. Last night I had to get my rb800 back out at practice. If I love the rb800 (and I do) is the 700 RB basically the same thing just more power?

That's a bummer, I'd inquire about it to @agedhorse before you return it. I don't know if he worked on that design, but he's certainly knowledgeable about their gear.

This is the first Earthquaker I try but they make SO MANY interesting pedals
Luckily 99% won't fit my songs (I use only 2 or 3 effects regularly...), so I can restrain myself

Hahaha, I would have a board chock full of their stuff if I could afford it! If I was only able to have one manufacturer's pedals on a board it would be them or DOD. Both make such a variety and such awesome sounding pedals.

I've been intrigued by 1-knob fuzzes and pulled the trigger on a Frost Giant Massif. Big wall of sludge and pretty easy to get into fun feedback land dime-ing it while playing an active bass through it.....will need to test more, it would be nice to have a fcukkin functional band to try it out in :poop:
