Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

A bunch of fit, sober people doing stoner or doom metal? Would the songs be about acknowledging the rights of secular goats and how labeling women as witches is just toxic masculinity used to perpetuate the patriarchy?

I’m thinking it would be about the depressive nature of said stimulants and how this poison must be combatted by any nihilistic means necessary. And, hail Satan.

You guys really know how to ace an audition. Welcome to the band!

How long ago did you switch? And what do you like better about ss?

i switched the Js to SS a couple years ago. i wanted more of a pick attack sound and the nickles were not cutting it. i find nickels (with the exception of dunlop super brights) to be too muddy and boomy with my Ps and they kill all the Rics charachter.

in general i find SS to be tighter in the lows abd more even than nickel.

Thanks for the laughs.

Now I got an interest in SS again. I avoided them for the longest time because my jazz is already so bright, so I tried those cobalt flats. Every time I read about em it's just that they're so much brighter and that's all the detail I've heard. To hear that they're tighter and more balanced put em back on the list to try.

Hey friends, sorry to bring up a topic that has probably been beaten to death around here, but does anyone know what tuning Al Cisneros uses on the Om songs? I know he plays a five-string for at least one of the songs live. But does he keep the four-string in E standard and the fiver in B standard? I would assume he tunes the four lower, but when searching I found a lot of people saying he's in E standard with Om.

I believe he's in standard most if not all the time in Om. Can't find where I read that though. Sounds that way.

Afaik Om is all standard tuning.

Edit: I saw Om in Louisville KY a few years ago. Al played one 4 string Ric, and I remember being surprised the tuning wasn’t typical from what I knew of Al and Sleep. This was also before I was overly familiar with the music of Om as well.

So a random issue came up and I’m not quite sure how to fix it. I recently left my tube amp on standby mode for about 4 hours accidentally and now the amp won’t turn on. Everytime I do the amp goes into protect mode and shuts down the tubes. The bias levels all indicate they are too low and even when adjusting the levels it stays that way. I’ve switched out cables and signal paths and nothing changes. I do leave the amp in the garage and since its summer its quite hot. Could that be impacting the tubes and causing it to shut off? And if so, is that why the bias is still too low?

Any help is appreciated.
