I'd like to take this interlude to nominate Eddie Shaw for best Gibson tuna can pickup involved tone, ever. While I'm at it, I might as well declare my love for all things Monks, particularly their fuzz sounds.

Live (so gorgeous for the time):

(Hah! I just realized that I learned how to do that kind of polyrhythmic drum pattern this weekend. I'm a terrible drummer. My thighs hurt.)

Anyone here regularly go for runs? Does it ever stop being terrible? Ive been running 3 times a week for a bit over a month and it still sucks

I've been exercising off and on since my mid twenties, I usually had to give it up because of time constraints due to work etc. It seems like it always takes a couple of months for me to get hooked on it again.

In fact, I'm about to finally move the exercise bike and weight sets back into the house again. I had to give them up when I moved out of my apartment in 2016 because of family room mates but I've got my own house now.

I mean, its fun? I'm a trail runner and I find running for 14 miles to be quite relaxing. It kind of depends on your idea of fun though. I find trail running to be a lot more fun and interesting than going out and pounding out a similar length run on the road or track or whatever. roads are so boring.

Mountain biking is my goto sport though, if you want to talk about a fsking expensive sport...

Running? Uggh. My least favorite exercise. Just could never run for running’s sake, though an old friend of mine used to love cross country. I ran plenty for soccer, but there was a direct purpose!

In the past year or so, I’ve actually been much more active and healthier in general. Got to a point I was winded keeping up with my then 2 year old and decided to make a change. A year later I’m down 60lbs or so. No real secret or anything, just regular old diet and exercise. Do mostly light weights and cardio stuff, but when I can, I really like to bike around town or on trails. Anywhere really. The hardest part for me is the diet change. The time factor is tough sometimes, but I can keep it off if I don’t eat like actual garbage all the time. I actually started with an old Xbox 360 exercise “game”. Got me started, and between that and a workout dvd my wife had, I got a broad enough repertoire of exercises to keep myself going. Haven’t been this size/weight since sophomore year in high school.

And now that that’s over, I’m gonna have a beer or two and eat some chips... (Hey, gotta splurge sometimes! I know I can never give up unhealthy stuff entirely! Everything in moderation...)

If you don't like running do Kettlebell swings with light weights for cardio. Burns infinitely more calories then running, builds muscle, still is cardio, and is kind of weirdly fun. You'd be surprised at the cardio you can build up doing 200-400 swings a day with a 20-35 lbs kettlebell.
May have to look into those. Sounds like a good combo of what I want - lose a bit more weight, get toned, and work on cardio. Thanks for the tip.

No problem, I do them while watching my 1 hour of TV a day, really easy, good for your lower back and not hard on your joints. I'll link you to the best video I found when I started them, all these huge dudes on youtube and the hot housewife does the best job explaining everything its kind of funny. Incidentally I lost 140 lbs in the past 2 years by doing kettlebell swings, not eating bread, not eating refined sugar, quitting pop, and snacking on fruit or nuts every 90 minutes or in between meals. Wasn't even hard, just had a ton of steaks with hot sauce.

^hahaha was gonna say the same thing! I get it though, trail running sounds like fun. I loved taking my enduro out on the trails when I had it. I can see how the peacefulness of not having a 2 stroke whining would be nice.

I'm in the same boat as @kleinenenten. I've never been a runner. Used to do 6 mile timed runs for soccer and it hurt the whole way...partially from injury but I've never been able to reach that mystical runners break.

I don't exercise a ton right now, but my job entails 12+mi a day of walking with almost a quarter of that up and down stairs. Between that and eating fairly healthy I've been in a static age of weight the last few years.

Btw ya wanna lose weight quick, look up box lacrosse...I weighed myself one day before and after a league match, 14lbs lost through sweat. All while I drank 2 Gatorades a ton of water and had a cliff bar. It was a hot day, but as a goalie it's so damn hot in that gear. I have no idea how the pros do it year round.

I would absolutely be dead long before 14 miles. Maybe itcould be relaxing after i straight up passed away.

Ive threatened to buy a mountain bike for years then i just buy more amps and pedals. Ive already got one too many expensive hobbies
