Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Cheap octave pedals? I like my old DOD Octoplus and my Bass Octave Deluxe, but want something cheap for a second board. I realize tracking may be an issue, but if it’s similar to one of those pedals, I’m good. Not an effect that I use much, but it’s fun and I have board space. Are the Behringers worth anything? Won’t abuse this pedal. How about the various Mooer/Rowin/Eno/other mini pedal makers? Hoping to spend $40 tops, used isn’t a problem.

Look up the Valeton OC-10. It's OC-2 based and definitely looks it. Mini enclosure and has good reviews. Can be had for under $40.

Any of y'all have experience with those vox practice bass amps? I'll probably be moving at the end of summer and although I love my BA210 I don't think my potential neighbors and roomates will feel the same way. I was mainly wondering if I stuck the practice amp at the end of my signal chain would it still work? All I've seen are people plugging the practice amp directly into their bass.

Also I will add that my BA210 does have a headphone jack but I think I screwed it up somehow. Are those typically easy fixes? I always wanted to replace the smaller AUX size input with a 1/4in input anyway (my preferred headphones are that size) so maybe that jack not working is a blessing in disguise

I would never buy a "practice amp" again in my life. Never ever.
If you mean the tiny one, those tiny amps are toys and suck really hard (tried the Orange.. awful. It's a toy, nothing more).
And even with a better amp, bass needs to be loud to sound decent. And in any case low frequencies propagate too easily even if you play at low volume with a practice amp, if you live in a flat.
At home I use the Tascam recorder and headphones, that's it...

The guy said 'looking for bassist for a jam sesh', and showed a hand-written note with songs. It was covers ranging from Warrant, to Peter Cetera, to Bowie. The best line was, "I am working on my set list and jamming tonight. My intention is to play some local shows when the bars open. Also Red Rocks if possible."

I'd like to be the manager at a Denny's some day, or maybe president.

If you're talking about the tiny ones that stick out of your bass, I'd suggest you avoid them. I had two and the headphone and aux-in jacks didn't last long. I started using my GK Plex which I already had. If you can find some kind of DI like the Plex that has a headphone out and aux in I'd go with that or if you have an iPhone or iPad or something, one of those adapters from ikmultimedia.

Any of you guys ever order from Gear4Music.com? It’s a British site, and the only one I could find that said they had something in stock. Been a few days since ordering and haven’t heard anything. Not sure if it’s normal or of due to the current situation or what. Just wondering if there’s experience around here.

Not for certain, no. I think it’s bad soldering on the input jack, but not sure. Got a local guy looking at it for me right now, hoping that’s all it is as he said he can fix it free if that’s what it is. Otherwise, off to a repair center for full diagnostic.

I bought my brother an ampeg ba112 practice amp and its still too loud to practice in his appartment. It actually sounds pretty solid though.

Headphone jacks are super easy to fix. Its usually 3 wires that you need to solder or crimp. Really easy to change and replace assuming they arent directly soldered to the circuit board. Even on the circuit board its not bad, but if you have no experience soldering i would be more weary of learning on an amps circuit board. Might be worth taking to a tech if thats the case.

Same boat here, ordered the new amp which I'm totally exited about. The only thing I've gotten so far is an email confirming the order. Nothing else and they haven't pulled the money out which makes me a little nervous. IIRC they said they only had 3 left.

In other news, built a mini board yesterday while the youngins were sleeping. Just fleshing out ideas for the full size board. The handles would probably be on the sides facing upward. I also plan to cut a bunch of "NASCAR" ovals on the metal so cables and such can go underneath more cleanly. Super cheap to build.

"Drivin' Along"


And of course, "Jump into the Fire". It's atonal, fuzzy disco in his hands.



But really, the whole thing rocks. I even like his cover of "Coconut", and I never really liked that song much.

Hey friends. I was screwing around today with the possible-maybe-you-never-know-probably-not-but-sorta beginning of something. I'd appreciate any feedback. I know the playing is sloppy but it was primarily just to test out recording possibilities.

Tribal Doom, I like the direction. Bass line might be cool to reamp and blend. Also kinda begs to be played or sent through a synth for some filter/envelope morphing to it some developing movement.

I actually did reamp this. I recorded it completely dry, then played that back through effects and my amp/cab. I mixed the dry with the mic'd amp, favoring the mic'd track slightly.

I hadn't thought of running it through a synth or filter/envelope...I'll have to mess with that and see if I can make something work.

Yeah for sure.

Just to clarify, if you have access to a synth you can plug a line in to, you could use it's modulation, filter, and whatnot as an effect and to manually morph the sound. Kinda like how edm music frequently has morphing tones and whatnot to create movement to the song. Almost kinda like a phaser where you change the rate from 0-100.

Wasn't sure if I worded it in a way that made sense. My micro brute allows line input where you can use the filter, modulation, etc. to process the signal.

I understood ya! My SH-201 allows you to do the same thing.
