Funny you should ask. I've got a Peavey Max preamp on the way and it has a crossover feature.

And I play a Peavey T-Max.
(-> insert "coincidence I think not" joke here)

I was just curious if one can do this: -> crossover output -> eq pedal -> power amp -> cab
Basically looking for a way to EQ my lower strings and higher strings differently. If it exists (possibly less "final" than modifying the bass electronics).

it is likely that the crossover outputs are meant to drive power amps directly, which would be too hot of a signal for pedals
without seeing some specs though i can't be sure

I assumed that the crossover outputs are the same signal level as a send/return loop. Doesn't the send return go directly to the power amp?

It also says

CROSSOVER (LOW OUT) (29)
Provides a post crossover low-range output signal. Signal level is adjusted by the master volume control and the crossover balance control.
CROSSOVER (HIGH OUT) (30)
Provides a post crossover high range output signal. Signal level is adjusted by the master volume control and the crossover balance control.

CROSSOVER BALANCE CONTROL (15)
Controls the relative levels of output signals from the crossover. Adjusting this control will only affect signals at
the High Range Output Jack and the Low Range Output Jack on the rear panel. All other output signals are
unaffected by this control.

Does it mean what I hope it means?

1.7v rms is a HUGE signal to present to a stomp box. you can try it but it'll likely clip most of what you send it to

(I'm assuming you don't mean literally EQ'ing individual strings differently. For that you'd definitely need to modify the electronics of your bass...unless you've got an Alembic. I assume what you mean is having a different EQ on the lower frequency ranges than on the higher frequency ranges.)

This is definitely possible with, at a minimum, the Line6 HX Effects (I mention that one specifically because I have it so I know it'll work...I'm sure there are other things that can accomplish what you want). It will let you split your signal at whatever crossover frequency you choose, then you can apply effects (including various EQs) to each signal path independently. There are probably other ways to do this cheaper. You can then either mix the signal paths together and output to your amp, or you could even send each signal path to its own output of the Line6 and then run them to different amps, etc.

@kleinenenten I'm glad you brought up the PD7 recently because I've been using it on its own since then and I'm loving it more and more. It might be the only distortion/fuzz I need.

Oof. That’s hard to hear right now! Glad to hear it, but my local one sold. I was hoping it would be there after my amp was fixed (and paid for), but apparently not. Pedals don’t matter much without the amp, after all. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for one. Really need to try some Bolt Thrower tunes one day.

Most of those 10hrs were us re-recording an albums worth of stuff... Still ended up being a LONG day between takes and all the punches... We got there at 10... Left at 10. We still have another 4 tracks to do vocals on, Gotta re-amp the bass tracks. I have a few where I'm not happy with the intonation and sort of tone and I want to re-track.
Fun learning experience, but wow, its still a ton of work with an audio engineer.

There seems to be no shortage in learning resources. Trouble is finding the ones that are helpful long term. There's hundreds of tutorial 'series' that are really just one or two videos before the maker gave up on them

David Finckel has a really good series of a hundred videos. I find him exceptionally pedagogical, reminds me a lot of some of the better school teachers I had

btw, I asume you also already discovered Tina Guo's YouTube channel. She also has some interesting videos about the electric cello and recording

indeed, NS EUB with Behringer SF-300 and ICA Twin Chorus. In a band setting I mostly just use a MBD-2, because the fuzz disappears a bit, but solo I really love the sounds of an EUB with fuzz.

And I'm not offended. Bagpipe doom would definitely be my jam
