Fun fact for those that don't know; Every song off Superunkown has it's own unique tuning. Supposedly they REALLY disliked people covering their songs lol.
Have to agree. I think that album gave Sleep some serious inspiration for Dopesmoker with "Hung Bunny".

I suppose it would be the melvins. I’m embarrassingly not familiar with Lysol, but know Ozma, Houdini and a few others. A History of Bad Men was my jam for a good chunk of early ‘20.
I want it to be Tad, because they’ve got all the main ingredients, but they’re just a different kind of heavy (not a fat joke).

I did really enjoy Facelift when it came out. My brother got a VHS tape with his copy that had a few videos and maybe some live footage. Anybody else remember that tape?

?Apropos of nothing, I was at a used music shop this weekend and they had a five string fretless. Since I've basically never tried fretless and I had time to kill, I plugged it in and gave it a go. (Slight problem: it's a lefty so I had to play with the strings upside down MonoNeon style.) I was surprised that I wasn't completely terrible (it helped that this was a lined fretless). Now I've got the seed planted in my head. I know we have at least one fretless player in the Doom Room...anyone care to share your thoughts about fretless?
Man, I'd really consider keeping that. Those are quality basses.
When I was 18 or so I bought a late '70s Music Man Sabre fretless for $500 with my hard-earned part-time KMart job dollars. It was unlined so I sucked for a while and still wasn't that great on it until a few years later, it just took some regular practice and rehearsal to work out the kinks. I remember one gig I switched between my P-bass and the MM for different songs....it worked out utimately but it was a headache. Fretless took a bit more mental effort to intonate and while the tone from the MM pickups/preamp was great, fretless didn't always sound good in every setting. I was listening to prog, Jaco/Weather Report and that kind of crap more back then. I also had one of those Gretsch acoustic fretless things that was kinda cool, nice neck, but as with any typical ABG it was weak acoustically. As with anything, I got burned out on the whole fretless thing and I sold the Gretsch and put the MM away for many years and eventually sold it for a ton of money, I guess because it was such an early example.
I'm kind of interested in picking one up again sometime in the future, like a Wishbass because why not, but I'm down to 9 fruckin' basses and honestly need another like another hole in my head. I've barely touched anything for that matter lately except my ABG. Not inspired lately at all....
(p.s. speaking of ABG's I found one a couple of years ago that sounds really good)
After a while everything started sounding like the same ol' clichéd mwaaah-mwaah wankery. I get that Jaco was a monster, but christ. Even Squarepusher (who I enjoy) was sounding wanky with his bass lines, but it worked well with his music because it's fruckin' crazy at times. I can't remember if he played fretless or not.
Tacoma Thunderchief, I have the cheaper 'Olympia by Tacoma' version (it's actually built very well). The placement of the sound hole probably has a lot to do with it, plus the slightly bigger body size. There is significantly more low/fundamental than others I've tried. It's still an acoustic and not that loud, but at least the tonez are there.
It was some kind of Brice. I don't know the exact model. I thought it sounded good...I was tempted to buy it to be honest. The only thing that stuck out to me was the G string seemed a bit high but all that would take is filing the nut slot down a bit. I also didn't know what all the knobs did so I can't swear on my life that the electronics were 100% functional.
