That's funny, we were camping up around there >2 weeks ago. Beer drinker? Did you stop by Anderson Valley Brewing?
I thought I had made a pretty strong case for the doóm de résistance of “Flowers on the Wall” a couple pages back. Really, though, how hard the first 5-6 Sabbath albums swing and the importance of that type of feel on truly despondent music cannot be overstated. So, I will not refute your assertions but will reframe the discussion: Bill Ward is the fountainhead.
I'm paraphrasing Al Cisneros because I can't find the exact quote, but:
"In Iommi, there is a great refuge. In Butler, we take solace. In Ward, we find shelter. The clarity is found in the first four albums."
Sabbath had great feel/swing, I agree. They also resisted the urge to ride one riff into the ground, which is the bane of many a doom band to follow them.
Geezer plays bass like a drummer: holding down the riff and picking his spots for fills. That gave Ward a lot of freedom to swing, as Geezer helped keep the heavy foundation. That synergy kept the whole cohesive.

The breakdown by all of Sabbath is spot on. I can't even imagine how sick some of their early shows, especially if they started to jam, would have been to see. They played a ton of blues before going down their path, so I'd put money on their jamming ability and tightness.
Ended up getting the distortion factory. The muff with the EQ is great. Didn't spend too much time with the Rat, but it'll work for sure. That and the tube screamer is solid with being able to bump the lows and tune the mids. Real sleeper of a pedal for sure.
Golden Gate Park was cool, went there in middle school. I have family up in Eureka, love the wilderness up there.

With things reopening my band has finally got to post our first demo song, check it out if you like. Got a show on Aug 14th, feels surreal to think about actually playing live in front of people with this group for the first time in almost 2 years! Somehow managed to keep the band from breaking up in that time so hopefully we get to reap the rewards of having practiced this material waaaaay too many times without people seeing it lol.

Probably my favorite Soundgarden song, I always tell people to listen to this because it's basically got straight up doom riffs. Super underrated!

Thanks. Yeah we had a discussion about that. General consensus was because dude was in a different country it wouldn't be an issue. What do you think?
I don't have an opinion, just wanted to make sure you're aware of it. I guess just as a practical matter it's probably best to address this early on. Maybe reach out to him and see if he would raise a stink, considering he appears to have used the name first? (Though I'd be shocked if he's the first artist to ever use that name. The fact that you're both in similar genre-space makes it more of a potential problem, possibly.) The more people that get to know you with this name, the more of a pain it seems like it would be if you later have to change the name. Just some stuff to think about.
Also in these days of teh interwebz, being in different countries seems less relevant. You're both equally accessible to anyone on Bandcamp, regardless of where they/you are physically located.
For myself, I'd try at the very outset to come up with a name that hasn't been used. But I'm not going to sit here and say that's the best way, because what do I know? I have virtually zero experience with being in a band, and I certainly have zero experience with making music anyone actually wants to listen to.
