I agree with you…It’s difficult to slow your mind down which is why I try to concentrate on specific things which usually helps me…I have REALLY struggled with insomnia over the years myself so I have a lot of empathy for that last sentence…
I’ve started taking a prescription to deal with it which is definitely helping, but before that I was averaging about 4-5 hours a night as well so I try to make my mind as busy as possible while attempting to not think about work and other stressful issues…
Wife likes to fall asleep watching Netflix, Hulu, or Doctor Who, but I’ve found that to be less effective for me personally bc I can’t disconnect from thinking about my problems just listening to a TV show (She says it works for her bc it distracts her)…
For a while I would try to estimate my daily calorie intake and macros in my head and when I first picked up the bass about a year ago I would try to go up and down the fretboard in my head in standard tuning (really helped me learn the notes on the fretboard)…
These days I try to listen to music with noise canceling headphones which I find helps me if I can put the volume on super low and try to listen for the bass line in the song…
Listening to The Sword station on Pandora also helps me…
Something about a bunch of redundant low frequency riffs at a relaxing volume goes a long way for me…

Lol-Well let’s be honest here…It IS a dumb post (Er, trivial might be a better description)…
It was just a random word association game I was doing bc band names can either be great/creative (e.g. Nirvana) or terrible (e.g. Smashing Pumpkins)…And I like both bands so not a knock on their music-I’m just thinking about their chosen names (Smashing Pumpkins were definitely a gateway drug for me into heavier music when I was in high school, but that name is pretty freaking atrocious (or bizarre) IMO…
It’s kind of like in Conspiracy Theory (at least I think??? That’s the movie???)…Where he goes: “Why do most serial killers always have two names: Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Daimler, David Berkowitz, Ed Gein, but assassins typically have three names like John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, James Earl Ray…

man I played a gig Saturday with my V4 and it sounded magical until it died after the second song. I’ve had SVT Cl, SVT II and have had nothing but problems. Mostly dying on me during shows.

Was following along with a tone wood thread yesterday, and realized that I am in a very tiny minority that only looks for a tone that sounds like "a bass".
I ran out to my car and grabbed my GK. I told them to keep playing the set list but they stopped and had to skip a couple songs. Vocalist was happy to inundate the audience with dad jokes.
My bedroom (my wife and I sleep in separate rooms due to my sleep problems and the fact I snore like a demon. \m/ \m/) has a black fleece over the window to keep out all light. I have to have it utterly black in there. I can't fathom how people sleep with a TV on.
So, now you've been bitten by multiple failures with the Ampeg line-up, are you going to go with another brand of amp? SS? Tube? Just making conversation on a Friday morning.
I know someone selling the hilbish preamp pretty cheap. Interested in that maybe going through the power section of the GK
The G-K should get you all the loud you need. Not familiar with that preamp, though. Chewy tube goodness?

That would explain the name! Lol. I'm not all that familiar with the Sunn stuff, besides what I read on this thread.
It's a sliding scale dependent on your level of panic.
Lately pretty much the only basses I play are my Ibanez Mikro and GWB35. The Dingwall and EHB1505MS sit idle and I'm actually going to sell the EHB. Those certainly aren't super expensive basses, but the fact that I seem to prefer the cheaper ones makes me incline towards your side. I do think fingerboard material makes a difference though. Ergonomics and pickup placement are a million times more important than what type of wood the body is made of, IMO.
