Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Getting back on the horse with trying to get a band together. I'm jamming with a drummer tomorrow afternoon. Seems like a good match after listening to his old band and talking to him on the phone, here's hoping.

Spent last night in the ER with my wife. One $10k imaging test later, nothing found. There were three possibilities. Ovarian cyst, kidney stone, or appendix. After all that, I wanted it to be something...

Getting first album mix today!!!

That sucks, hopefully it gets sorted. Last time that happened around these parts, it turned out my wife had an ovarian cyst the size of a large grapefruit and they rushed her straight into surgery, scary stuff. Maybe it's just implantation pains and you've got another rugrat on the way.

I like the jam-band vibe, lots of good grooving, interesting bass work, and lots of guitar solos, which I dearly love. I really enjoy listening to Warren Haynes' guitar playing, although, the slide work does get boring pretty quick. These guys, and some of the other jam bands, in a roundabout way led me to heavy blues music, which led to more psychedelic guitar based music, which led me to stoner rock. And so here I am.
+1 that's exactly how I got dropped off on the stoner door step.

I haven't added anything to my Spotify thing in quite awhile, mainly because I haven't been using Spotify. I know Tony has a 2014 list set up though, and I've been meaning to check it out.

What stuff have you guys been listening to a lot that's come out recently?
I've been digging Monolord a bit. People are calling it the doom album of 2014, although it seems like a lot of Sleep/EW worship to me. Some cool stuff for sure though - http://monolord.bandcamp.com/
New Mars Red Sky is incredible. Need to pick that up on vinyl -
New 1000mods is freaking awesome -
The new Mastodon album is pretty good and is slowly growing on me.
Of course the new Monobrow album is fantastic - http://monobrowmanband.bandcamp.com/
Ancient Warlocks is pretty cool. Been trying to give it some more spins to decide if I like it enough to buy on vinyl. There are some really catchy tracks - http://ancientwarlocks.bandcamp.com/
Still rocking the Volume IV album which is really awesome -
New Pontiak is also pretty trippy - [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Any of you gamers played Farcry 3? Finally getting fed up with Fallout 3 and NV glitching out on me and saw Farcry 3 on sale for dirt cheap last night. I dug the second one despite its flaws, 3 seems to be head and shoulders above that one - at least according to reviews.

well, the pickings were pretty slim for the doom stuff at the library, which is where I test drive a lot of CDs before I spend my dough.

Just burn the CDs to your computer, then burn the best songs to black CDs for the car. That's what I do when I went to the library.

Hey sometimes I forget I can do more with the internet than porn and talkbass.

Sure you can talk porn or watch bass.

+1

You actually control the situation by not appearing to be worked up by anything.

Take a X a n a x (banned word lol!) and just have a permanent slight smile and head nod.
