@kleinenenten the Bear Amps HM2 looks really nice. I've been messing around with my Abominable Throne Torcher, and I can get some great sounds out of it, but I feel like the classic chainsaw is kind of hard to dial in. I'm also playing at very low volume through a tiny combo amp, so that doesn't help things. My plan was to get "one clone pedal per circuit," but I already ordered a kit to make the GCI/NEW HM2, so so much for that. God help me.

Stoner/Doom Bassists Thread, Part 90: Maxed Out

Good luck! I'll say this - if you want traditional "chainsaw" on bass, I'd go for the Dunwich. The Bear Amps really sticks out in the mix, but at my preferred settings, does NOT sound like a normal HM-2 chainsaw. It CAN do that, as I did a quick test on my guitar rig yesterday, but those same settings on bass don't sound great to me, and other clones are better for that tone on bass. The Bear Amps seems to chop off the extreme ends of the final product (i.e. the extreme lows and hiss) and focus on the mids to really shine. It works great, but if you want standard chainsaw tones out of the mix, the Dunwich would be better suited, while still being able to be tweaked to work well in the mix too.
Typically, I feel that the classic chainsaw tones on bass leave it thin sounding, and too "splatty" in the dirt for my liking. Then, it just gets lost in the mix. I've been able to tweak the Dunwich to get it to stick out better in the mix (but not as much as the Bear Amps, which is ALWAYS incredibly present in the mix), but it always "supports" the mix better and sounds more like a traditional rolled off bass tone. Just an incredibly heavy one.
Also - thoughts on the Throne Torcher? Always been interested, but never grabbed one of his pedals. I hear conflicting reports about both pedals and builder. The last time I tried out a brand I'd been interested in for years (Fuzzrocious), I ended up buying two of them pretty quickly... Have I been missing out?
I set up my HM-2 board for guitar yesterday. 9 different takes on the circuit. I've apparently owned 11 of them! The only one I'm not trying out on guitar is the Dunwich, as I did that a few months ago and it didn't work well for guitar. Gonna hopefully get to jamming in a bit, once the dog gets off my lap...
Anybody able to ID this for me? Been looking for a cheap 112 to pair with my GK MB200, and it doesn't get much cheaper. Also, I hear good things about Carvin in general, though I've never had anything made by them.

These albums are not in any particular ranked order. They are all great albums in my mind and ears.
Since Mike started this, I got to start off with a Yob album and that's Atma. There's no bad Yob album and Atma gets the nomination on account of the reissue. That bass is chef's kiss on both versions. Next choice has to be Master of Reality, the album in which the Birmingham Boys created various offshoot metal genres and tropes. I'll do one album per band otherwise I'll run the risk of having this whole thing be a Sabbath and Cathedral love fest. For Cathedral, Mike is right on the money with his selections both Ethereal Mirror and Soul Sacrifice mark a unique era for Cathedral away from their Death/doom sound on Forest of Equilibrium. The Carnival Bizarre might have been my first album I was obsessed with but the winner here is their demo, In Memorium. For The Wizard, again Mike picked another of my favorite EPs and Dopethrone is an instant classic but I'm going with Come My Fanatics… for the fact they still had that psychedelic Hawkwind sound Jus was a fan of. Could have gone with their self titled since it sounded like a Cathedral album, I'm teasing EW but really it's a good album and Mountains of Mars is such a good trip. Since Mike named two of my favorite EPs I'll pick The Gates of Slumber's Stormcrow as another EP I always go back to. Great band with a great catalog. Acid King had two killer EPs I like but I selected Middle of Nowhere, Center of Everywhere. I'm a sucker for Silent Pictures. Sleep's Holy Mountain and High on Fire The Art of Self Defense are a mighty tantrum I'm sticking to. Lord Vicar's Fear No Pain, Solitude Aeturnus' Through the Darkest Hour and Trouble Run to the Light finish off this lengthy rant.
Top 11 Doom albums, eh? Probably not as into doom as many here (and some of these are probably doom-adjacent or very "mainstream"), but I do enjoy all the metal. I usually just listen to "metal" as a whole, and when I'm craving a band I'll just put it on without thinking of the sub-genre. Unless I'm doing a deep dive on a sub-genre. Anyway, no specific order here, but here are the albums that come to mind for me, in the order that I happened to think of them:

I had an R1000 back in the day and it did the job for the few years I had it. Carvin made some very solid stuff - pretty sure they closed up shop in the last 5ish years.
That cab doesn’t seem to match any of the stuff I’m familiar with. The fact that they have it listed as 16 ohms makes me think it may be a guitar amp/cab.
Yeah, someone else said likewise. Unfortunate, but probably right it would seem. Dang. Thankfully my amp hum seems to have been fixed (stupid user error, and thankfully free and easy to fix), so my push to get a smaller amp isn't as big of a deal with the 400RB back in action. It's still plenty loud, but far more tameable than the 700RB!
Can we put "stoner rock" albums in there too? If we're doing just "doom," I would include:

totally, I just spent 3 hours with it. Had it set up to drone and then ran bits of a Deep Space 9 episode through its delay and filter. then added another drone-ish track just because.

My understanding is fuzz is the extreme end of signal clipping where the signal is turned into a square wave from the excessive volume of clipping.
Distortion is just heavy clipping, but not yet sqaure wave. I could be wrong about all this though.
As someone who doesn't own any sleep albums and I really dig hot lava man and I'm a sucker for 7" so maybe I'd be down for it. Price doesn't seem insane for the number of records, but still a bit steep.

@Tendril - I think this is a great/accurate assessment…
I feel like I’m too young to be a part of the generation that looked up to KISS and did the whole KISS Army thing, but they’ve got some decent songs and I like them okay even though I’ve never really gotten “into” them like some other bands…
Pretty sure some of the ire that him and KISS in general get stems from his personality and the intentional commercialization of their band because while that shouldn’t matter or impact the judgement of their music and I believe that artists should only be judged by their music-Some people just can’t separate the two in their mind…
I believe it’s commonly known as Lars Ulrich Syndrome…
Metallica will always be my favorite band and while I really love the guy and respect his musical talent-He REALLY rubs some people the wrong way…People are still angry about him over the whole Napster thing even though that was like 22 years ago at this point…
I’m thinking that with Gene Simmons-I wonder if some of the people dogging his/their musical talent are angry/jealous of their overall long term success and his business decisions with how that band is marketed…

Ooh I forgot about Bongzilla and Ufomammut. Gateway and Ecate are good picks, although I might go with Snailking for Ufomammut.
